Billy Graham's son speaking about the
Reagon atheist ad:

"It is, of course, his choice to believe or not to believe in God and His plan of salvation through Christ. But whether an individual “believes” in God, heaven, or hell doesn’t change the reality."

He's right, the reality is there's no
god and no heaven and hell. Notice
how he had to sneak the brand in
there, the sales pitch. 'God and his
plan', etc. FrG does the same thing.
They're always selling, always closing
the deal, always pushing their product.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I get the feeling atheists are a larger proportion of gamblers than average.

Was looking at old statues from Mesopotamia and came across the Atheists bible, kind of interesting: https://suchanek.name/texts/atheism/ChapterReligions.html

Evenbob is the most religious member of this forum which makes this thread even more funny than it would have otherwise been.

Maybe, at least the more rational math based gamblers.

But, there is also a vast population who is extremely superstitious. And, people who are superstitious are more likley to have other non rational beliefs (even if not traditionally religious).

Also, gambling is prohibited in some mainstream religions, which automatically cuts out some denogepahics (at least the devout followers of such religions).

Catholic churches and schools hold festivals pushing lottery sales and alcohol but can not be seen to be too enthusiastic about it. Sausage festivals may only feature one vendor selling sausages, so truth in advertising is not high on their list.

I doubt any state could ban an atheist from taking office or would even try to despite archaic laws

the Mormons ban gambling and playing cards from the home but often provide Vegas with tons of dealers.

There is always a difference between a public stance and reality.

I think it was Thomas Jefferson who had a 37 page Bible after throwing out the nonsense, but he never publically admitted to it.

never be too accepting of official positions on any issue.

That's a good way of putting it. God
religions are non rational. You have
to throw common sense and rationality
out the window to embrace a god religion.
Why would a sane person do that unless
they were brainwashed at an early age
to think that way. That's why religious
people scare me. They pretend the
world is a certain way, then go about
trying to believe it even though at
every turn it's thrown in their faces
that they're wrong.

I'm sure all atheists are different from one another, but,

An atheist often strikes me as someone who:

*oddly actually has a religion of sorts, with religious zeal
*often wants to convert others to atheism
*has an over-confident philosophy about their religion [has rejected just being an agnostic]
*may have a grudge due to disappointments in life

a·the·ism
/ˈāTHēˌizəm/
disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods.

That's all it is. Does it mean
we discontinue being people
because we don't believe in
a god? Hardly.

I followed the Dead with a religious zeal but on the flip side I criticized Jerry Garcia a lot

I have no interest in converting anybody to anything including being a deadhead or an atheist
Don't like the Dead, fine by me
Don't want to be an atheist, fine by me

My confidence is in science. That's it

I've had disappointments in life but hold no grudge
