Easy to see. The number of black males in prison added to ones choosing white women means a shortage for black women. Black women are the least selected on dating apps as well. I remember a WSJ article about it, featured a black guy who had a nice white-collar career and had his pick of the black women around him. And yes, lots of white women lead very sheltered lives. I would not call them "stupid" in general but very "street stupid." I saw it in college when so many would wear these bracelets that let you carry your student ID and dorm key. To me that was a sign saying they were a mark. Today if I work a casino party at a college freshman orientation/mixer I see it. Hard to explain but a bit like when Nicole Kidman gets off the boat in "Far and Away" and loses all her prized silver within a minute and just does not understand the harsh reality that is life. I don't know if you meant me, but I once pointed out that the age of consent is 16 in some states. I didn't necessarily say that I think it should be. Anyway, this guy Fogle'd it. Picked the wrong state to do that. Minors (within reasonable age of one another) should be able to consent to having sex with one another. Are you going to throw high schoolers into Juvie for having sex? You'll have a lot of high schoolers in Juvie, that's for sure. West Virginia's law either does or did amount to the age of consent being eighteen, except there was a three year age difference allowance. That seems pretty reasonable. I guess you could have a blanket exception for those who have been legally emancipated. "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen..let us give them all they want." William T. Sherman |

No, that comment was in reference to somebody else who thinks that it should be okay to for men to marry girls at 14 (as is still technically possible in some areas on the country, especially if you count U.S. territories, not even getting into other countries), but is outraged every time there is a random story about a gay man having illegal sex with a 16 or 17 years old (as they should be), but I am just pointing out the blatant hypocrisy (I could very easily start a "Straight Thread" and post nonstop stories about adult men who sleep with 16 year olds, but its so common that it would grow tiring, also straight women who sleep with teenagers, both are pretty common in schools alone, endless arrests and stories even just focusing on teacher-student arrests and allegations.....) . I think marriage should be 18 period. I think age of consent should be 18, I understand the arguments about age ranges (such as a 19 and 17 year old), but that is too much of a gray area, 18 across the board would be easier. |

SOOPOO Member since: Feb 19, 2014 Threads: 22 Posts: 4182 | . Help me here.... when I was 16 and GF was 17 and we had sex, should we both have been arrested? Is that what you are saying? We were broken up before we were 17 and 18, but if we weren’t, should she have been arrested? |

You were both under 18, so nobody would be arrested (even under current laws). Also, you were within a year of each other so well within age range. My main point is to marriage. I do think the age of consent should be 18 across the board, but marriages under 18 are a far more pressing issue. Everyone dated while under 18, the point is a hard cutoff of becoming an adult. For example if you are 21, and are drinking with a friend who is 20, that can be serious charges in many states (supplying alcohol to underage, contributing to delinquency, other random state stuff, etc...), everyone agrees that this is reasonable and 21 is largely agreed to be the age in America for alcohol and (legal) marijuana usage. Does this create an awkward scenario when you are the first in a group of friends to turn 21 and can face (in some cases, serious) jail time for being at the same parties before they turn? Of course, buts its a necessary cutoff that we all agree is reasonable. I don't see how a hard cutoff for the age of consent is any different. Once you become 18, stay with people over 18, simple. However, these obscure scenarios about people dating turning 18 at different times or friends who party turning 21 at different times are distractions from the larger problem that a serious portion of the U.S. population can still be married by their parents at 14........ |

That's what age of consent is, otherwise, how would one minor consent to having sex with another minor? I guess I'm not sure what problem you think you are fixing, here, but I think it's a good idea to at least have an age where minors cannot legally have sex at all. I don't know that such would actually stop them, but if I'm ever picking up the kids from school and see a pregnant twelve-year-old waddling around again, it'll be too soon. I think the WV thing makes sense. It's pretty black and white. The minimum age of consent is 15 and then you look at the age difference. Here's another flow list: 1. Are you a legal adult? -If yes, go to 2. -If no, go to 3. 2.) Is the person you intend to have sex with a legal adult? -If yes, have sex. -If no, go to #4. 3.) Is the person you intend to have sex with a legal adult? -If yes, go to #4. -If no, go to #5. 4.) Is the person you intend to have sex with within three years of your age---by birthdate? -If yes, have sex. -If no, do not have sex. 5.) Are you both at least 15? -If yes, have sex. -If no, don't have sex. ***Anyway, setting a hard cap of eighteen is very cut and dry, but it's not very practical for high schoolers. The reason why is that you'll almost always have one person (if they are a couple) turning eighteen at some point before the other person. I tend to believe that's why some states just make it anywhere from 14-16 flat, but I'm good with the whole difference of age three years thing until both are legal adults. The comparison to drinking is not an apt one because there's a difference between providing a minor alcohol and saying that two people who may have been a relationship for years (and are both high schoolers) can suddenly no longer have sex because one turned eighteen. Also, who agrees that the cutoff of 21 for drinking is reasonable? I did not agree to that. I think it should be eighteen or sixteen if one is in the company of one's own parents. Finally, just make the hard legal age to get married eighteen with no exceptions. That's easy enough. "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen..let us give them all they want." William T. Classic formula is male age divided by 2 plus 7. 18 yo male thus OK with a 16 year old but no younger. I have yet to see a better formula. The President is a fink. |

There are adults who would have trouble with that equation, so I don't really expect the latest crop of idiot high schoolers to be able to handle it. I imagine they're too busy learning about how you and I personally enabled the slaveowners 100+ years before either of us were born. (Not to mention that my Dad's side was not even in the country yet and the first on my Mom's side just got here right before the Civil War started and did not own any slaves.)
