I believe that comes from a private endowment - not tax payer money |

Money! Taxes are what pays for our country, right? Bridges and rail and EMS and on and on, add it all up, divvy by citizenry and boom, there's your chunk of responsibility. If the country stays the same but the number of people paying lessens, the amount the payers are responsible for goes up. Same obvious logic about the welfare rats. Untold billions, man. Billions UPON billions. Have you not heard of the Panama Papers? Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it. |

Are you implying that the total amount of money taxed each year is actually divided up by the number of people paying taxes? |

I've thought about that before, and posted about it before, but what if it were? Here's the numbers Requested 2019 Federal budget for the United States: 4,470,000,000,000 2019 estimated population of the United States: 329,472,504 Divide the budget by the population, and you get $13,376. How much money do you have to make, to pay $13,376? here are the tax brackets https://www.quickenloans.com/blog/federal-income-tax-brackets on your first $38,700, you pay $4,453.50 that leaves $8922 $8922 / 22% = $40,545 $40,545 is is the amount in excess of $38,700 that you would have to make to owe an additional $8,922 in taxes. add those up - $38,700 plus $40,545 = $79,255 in taxable income. So, an individual would have to have $79,255 in taxable income to pay for their equal share of the federal budget. That's taxable income, after deduction. For example, the standard deduction now for folks is $12,200 Add just that to the taxable income, and a single person taking only the standard deduction would have to make $91,455 to pay for their equal share of the federal budget. The average household in the United States is 2.6 people. For that household, their equal share of the budget is $34,778. a married couple filing jointly would have to have $165,000 in taxable income to pay $28,179 in taxes. they'd have to make $25000 more than that to hit their share, so that's $190,000 in taxable income. So, in general and on average, a family of 2.6 people needs to have a taxable income of $190,000 in order to pay for their equal share of the federal budget. Just a couple of points of comparison for that - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Household_income_in_the_United_States average household income in the united states is $72,641. I think that page says that the median household income (half make more, half make less) was $61,372 I believe those are pre-tax, so you can see how far away those are from $190,000 in taxable income. | petroglyph Member since: Aug 3, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 6227 | I don't have a twitter account and don't know where you find that exact link? I clicked on your post here, and still don't find that long number, is that something you see when you go to your twitter? Just wondering how it works? I read that and got a bit of a chuckle, then wasn't sure I wasn't reading some kind of spoof. She doesn't have a chance to win, but has good things to say and I find her more authentic than most. If I am going to have a POTUS blasted on my screen for an admin or two, I prefer one that is easy on the eyes. I believe they generally rule by committee anyway. Thanks for instruction. When you are looking at a timeline of tweets, each tweet has a link next to the tweeter's name that is a timestamp (it will either say "Sep 14" or something like "14h" if the tweet is from the same day). Click on that link, and you will be taken to the permalink URL for that tweet. "You think I'm joking." -EvenBob |
