The GOP keeps claiming she's such "a gift" to them, and yet they keep scrambling to try to find ways to get rid of her.

Things that make you go "hmmm....."

It is perfectly analagous to Trump being a gift to the Dems! And of course they continue to "scramble to get rid of him". Doesn't make me go hmmmm at all!

The big difference, people in Trumps orbit are going to jail or are in jail. Not the case with AOC

Hah! I had a feeling someone would try to make this comparison.

I’d venture that a POTUS has *slightly* more power than a freshman congresswoman.

I think that is a good point. AOC is a 29 year old socialist. It's not a particular shock that a 29 year old socialist is going to say some outlandish things inconsistent with the majority opinion. If you laugh it is one thing, but if she is turned into a martyr she may end up a Senator.

The Dems lost seats in the Senate, and won the average amount of House seats that happens to a mid-term incumbent president. (PacoMartin?)

Mid-term elections usually have losses by the party of the sitting POTUS. It happened in 17 of the last 19 mid-term elections since WWII. Exceptions were in 1998 when Clinton was POTUS and 2002 when GW Bush was POTUS.

I would say that the Democratic gains in the House were not shockingly high although the gain of 40 seats was above the average of 27 seats. I certainly wouldn't call it a political movement. As recently as 2010 the Republicans gained 63 seats for President Obama's first midterm election.

I am not sure of the psychology, but mid terms don't normally have as high a turnout as years with a Presidential Election. It seems as if they attract more people angry with the status quo than people who support it.

(+/-) Year Incumbent POTUS Net gain/loss of president's party
-40 2018 Donald Trump Republican (240 ► 200)
-13 2014 Barack Obama Democratic (201 ► 188)
-63 2010 Barack Obama Democratic (256 ► 193)
-32 2006 George W. Bush Republican (231 ► 199)
+8 2002 George W. Bush Republican (221 ► 229)
+4 1998 Bill Clinton Democratic (207 ► 211)
-54 1994 Bill Clinton Democratic (258 ► 204)
-8 1990 George H. W. Bush Republican (175 ► 167)
-5 1986 Ronald Reagan Republican (182 ► 177)
-26 1982 Ronald Reagan Republican (192 ► 166)
-15 1978 Jimmy Carter Democratic (292 ► 277)
-48 1974 Gerald Ford Republican (192 ► 144)
-12 1970 Richard Nixon Republican (192 ► 180)
-47 1966 Lyndon B. Johnson Democratic (295 ► 248)
-4 1962 John F. Kennedy Democratic (262 ► 258)
-48 1958 Dwight D. Eisenhower Republican (201 ► 153)
-18 1954 Dwight D. Eisenhower Republican (221 ► 203)
-28 1950 Harry S. Truman Democratic (263 ► 235)
-54 1946 Harry S. Truman Democratic (242 ► 188)
-26.5

Number of seats flipped doesn’t mean much if you’re not analyzing the effect of gerrymandering.

Sounds like a nothing burger to me.

But I’m sure right-wing media will obsess over it and more gullible righties will be convinced that she’s about to get kicked out of congress... lol

Shame on me. I should have checked AOC’s twitter before responding to these “scribd documents” you keep posting. She always counters you righties’s B.S. so well.
