The electoral college is vital to our government. Eliminating it is just a dumb idea. I think ending it could well destroy the country because it helps balance the power between our individual states and the federal government.

Exactly. Without the EC candidates would just concentrate on winning a supermajority of a few big places. Libs cannot stand it becaue it gets in their way and makes them pay attention to what they consider uneducated hicks.

Great find. How do you think he answers this question at a debate? "President Trump, in 2012 you tweeted that the Electoral College is a disaster for a Democracy. Can you explain that to us?"

If he was smart or had advisors he listened to....

"The fact that people from a state can have their votes ignored by 'faithless electors' is a threat to any Presidential election."

I think he really says something like this.... "What a stupid question from PMSNBC! Fake news with ratings dropping like Biden's IQ! How can they not recognize sarcasm is beyond me. MAGA!"

It is a disaster for a "democracy".

We don't have a "democracy"; we have a constitutional republic.

He was wrong, of course, both because he was describing our system as well as the electoral college as a disaster.

That "disaster" got him elected a few short years later.

Anyway, a lot of folks that get into politics have changes in their positions as time moves forward. Some are due to true changes in their thinking; others are related to political expediency. All of them will be assigned a value of one of those two based on the beliefs of the person assigning that value.

About every 4 years there
is screaming and moaning
and hair pulling in Congress
to get rid of the AC. How many
bills were introduced after
Trump was elected. Notice
it's another election year
and the EC is still there. Nuff
said, it's not going anywhere.

And another young libbie doesn't even realize that's EXACTLY what those sneaky, slimy DEMocRATS tried to do when they tried to bully Bush's electors after he beat Gore in 2000!! 🙄

Quit telling history. Next you will talk about how Democrats not Republicans got us into Vietnam. And every war before it in the 20th Century.

Yep, and do you remember back before the 2000 election when those sneaky, slimy DEMocRATS didn't want Ralph Nader in the race, so they actually set up a website so that Gore voters in a safe state like CA could hook up with Nader voters in a tossup state like FL?

They would then make a pledge. The Gore voter in NY would vote for Nader, and the Nader voter in FL would vote for Gore. That way, Nader's total vote count would stay the same, while Gore would have a better chance at winning a battleground state. And of course, NOBODY in the media back then talked about how DEMocRATS were trying to manipulate the vote and steal the election. Could you imagine if Trump or any other Republican tried the same thing?!

And as expected, the media today NEVER talks about that sleazy website anymore. They just want to scrub it from history. The young libbies on this board were probably like 2 years old at the time, so they don't even know about it either.

Just shows you how dirty DEMocRATS are!!

Let's see.

electoral college systems Burundi, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Madagascar, Myanmar, Pakistan, Trinidad and Tobago and Vanuatu.

I don't think you can conclude much at all.

It is worth pointing out the Electoral College always favors the Right.

Everytime a canidate wins the popular vote but loses the Presidency its always the right that wins the EC but the left always wins the popular vote back to 1824.
The popular vote favors the left (there are more of us).

I don't mind the EC, it keeps elections more fair and gives the right a fighting chance. It won't go away, so you may as well accept it....

As metro areas expand, and there are fewer rural areas, the EC will be less relevant....

Why is it worth pointing out?

The EC is there to balance large and small states. Do you think large metro areas favor leftist candidates?

I think that is evident.

But, it's worth pointing out that more Americans lean left and have for a while.... So if you measure the justification of a philosophy by the number of followers (which is a logical fallacy), you would also have the grant that there are more lefties.....
