I'd say someone with ties to Hamburg and Munich is a Hamburger Muncher :)

I have been to only 3 of them. I am surprised that Madrid is not on the list.

53,402,506 Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (nonstops to 12 US cities and 3 in Canada)

Has anyone been to 7 of the 10 busiest airports in Europe?
78,047,278 Heathrow Airport (nonstops to 28 US cities and 7 in Canada)
69,471,442 Charles de Gaulle Airport (nonstops to 23 US cities and 3 in Canada)
68,515,425 Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (nonstops to 19 US cities and 4 in Canada)
64,500,386 Frankfurt Airport (nonstops to 22 US cities and 3 in Canada)
63,727,448 Istanbul Atatürk Airport (nonstops to 9 US cities and 2 in Canada)
53,402,506 Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (nonstops to 12 US cities and 3 in Canada)
47,284,500 Barcelona El Prat Airport (nonstops to 10 US cities and 1 in Canada)
45,554,038 Gatwick Airport (nonstops to 12 US cities and 5 in Canada)
44,594,516 Munich Airport (nonstops to 15 US cities and 3 in Canada)
40,971,881 Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (nonstops to 13 US cities and 2 in Canada)

The next three busiest would have been the two Moscow airports and Orly.

Another ranking of top 10 would be destinations for US flagged airlines (United, Delta, American). There are 8 out of 10 in common between the lists, but the new list would include Dublin and Brussels instead of Istanbul and Gatwick Airport.

LHR United Kingdom
AMS Netherlands
CDG France
FRA Germany
FCO Italy
DUB Ireland (nonstop 15 airports in USA and 2 in Canada)
BCN Spain
MAD Spain
MUC Germany
BRU Belgium(nonstop 6 airports in USA and 2 in Canada)

Istanbul is within 3000 miles (single aisle jet range) of major airport in Africa and India which probably accounts for it's relatively high passenger count.

I've been to five of them, four of them in the last year. My favorite is Heathrow.

47,284,500 Barcelona El Prat Airport (nonstops to 10 US cities and 1 in Canada)

I have also landed in Heathrow, Madrid, Schipol, Gatwick, and Rome. Other airports in Europe Reykavik, Bergen, Lisbon, Sicily, Stockholm, Vienna, Milan and Zurich. I've never landed in Istanbul, but I have landed in Bahrain.

I have been to Munich, Helsinki and Paris by train, but did not land in the airport.

I think one problem with the list is that United, Delta, and American do not fly to Gatwick or Istanbul. Flights to the USA from Gatwick are on Norwegian or British Airways, with Virgin Atlantic also flying from Gatwick to Las Vegas. Istanbul to USA nonstops are exclusively on Turkish Airlines.

All airlines fly to Heathrow, but Delta likes to fly to Paris and Amsterdam whereas United prefers Frankfurt. American is so focused on Heathrow that they only have a few flights to Madrid and other cities.

It is difficult to reach 7 out of 10 unless you fly a lot of foreign airlines.

Primera Air, based in Estonia, abruptly went out of business stranding all its passengers, firing all its employees, turning off its telephones, email and twitter feed and making no attempts to find alternative travel arrangements for anyone.

Those cheapie tickets are worthless and nontransferable.

Those passengers are stuck wherever they are.
