Greatest female vocalist ?
Lotte Lenya or Bette Midler.
The Divine Miss M may not have had much of a voice but she put everything she had into her performances at the Continental Baths. Still on youtube I think.

I'd like to hear your opinion on her covers of the these 2 classic songs

Rank amateur compared to this.

the sound of Brazil - Bebel Gilberto - "So Nice" - this kind of stuff was very popular in the U.S. in the late 60s and early 70s and then kind of disappeared

You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

Easy on the eyes too. I guess she's too young to be the girl from Ipanema.

I prefer this one.

I used to like this type of music, now
it just sounds depressing, like a rainy
day in a dirty city.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Mariah Carey is one of the greatest Female vocalists alive! :D Vision Of Love is ethereal and sucks you in from the plane during liftoff sounding opening to the very end is pure soul uplifting. :) Emotions is probably Mariah's hardest song to sing and she hits the top Soprano notes so effortlessly (A funny male YouTube poster said something like this. "I am a man and I never thought I could reach that high pitched Soprano note that Mariah does in Emotions. I happened to make that same high pitched Soprano note that Mariah makes when a night roach flew into my face suddenly. I didn't know I had it in me. I also found out I was a Sprinter as I ran the fastest I had ever run in my life after having a night roach fly into my face!" LMAO! :D

My list, depending on my priorities and mood.

Ella Fitzgerald
Bette Midler
Linda Ronstadt
Barbra Streisand
Karen Carpenter
Whitney Houston

General criteria - I will listen to any of them sing anything. List is probably in correct order for me, though.

I can't say I've been listening for anyone lately, but all of my people are dead or not performing, so good thing there are hundreds of recordings of them. Very enjoyable (b list), but not up to the greats above:

Sarah McLaughlin
Celine Dion
Norah Jones
Aretha Franklin
Ricki Lee Jones
Cher
Christina Aguilera
Judy Garland
