Beer is 300% more expensive and
cigs are 1500% more. You will find
examples like this in cars and food
and housing and labor in every
AFI you do. It makes AFI a meaningless
calculation because it has so many
exceptions.

You can drive a semi thru "housing costs." We have half the household size now living in twice the house size from the 1970s. Of course it will go up. But look at how we live. Only "rich" people had central air in the 1970s. Now look how many people do.

Lamestream media is doing all they can to ignore peace and prosperity.

Beer and cigs have been greatly affected by sin taxes since those days.

Here's the crux of their whole position:

"After adjusting for inflation"

You absolutely cannot do that, it's
apples and oranges. It's meaningless
because AFI does not in any way
calculate evenly.

For instance. A pack of smokes
cost 30 cents in 1965 and a
case of beer was $5. Now, in
MI, it's around $15, and cigs are
about $4.50 a pack.

Beer is 300% more expensive and
cigs are 1500% more. You will find
examples like this in cars and food
and housing and labor in every
AFI you do. It makes AFI a meaningless
calculation because it has so many

Thanks for your opinion, Bob. While you might not believe in inflation-adjusted income, everyone else does.
Here is a quote from the article you linked to:

Inflation-adjusted median household incomes in July hit $62,450 according to the latest release from Sentier Research.

Sheet rock, formica, pvc vs more expensive things like real wood, brass, and lots of stuff not mass produced like today. etc.,

Doesn't matter what the reason is,
you cannot compare wages and
expenses of the past and present
on a wide basis. You can only do
it item per item, and it's an
excruciating process. The conclusion
you always come to is, some things
are better, some are worse, some
are the same. The one thing you
can never say is, buying power
today, with CFI, is the same as it
was in 'pick a year'. You can
only say it for a very specific item,
and nobody ever does.

Gas is a good example. 25 cents a
gallon in 1965 was 25% of my hourly
wage. If you make $15 an hour today,
gas is about 20% of that. Does that
mean the buying power today is
about the same as 50 years ago?
It's not even in the same universe.

Actually there are many more expensive things in houses today. Ever been in a 1950s/60s house that has not had extensive remodeling? Compare a kitchen then to one today. Compare everything. People today will not accept a Levittown house. They will whine that they cannot afford a house, but old-school places are not built.

Smart, single guys buy these older places on the cheap and we laugh at how much our co-workers pay. Keep housing costs to 25% of income, that is a huge key to living comfortable.

Was watching a Levittown Utube. They said
pre WWII a typical contractor would build
3 houses a month. In Levittown, it was 38
houses a day. It was assembly line building.
Each crew had a specific job, like drywall.
Then move to the next house. The houses
that sold for $7000 in 1947 are now $175,000.
Another example of how CFI doesn't
calculate properly.

I worked with people from Long Island in the late-1990s. They said my house would have been 3-4 times as much. I still cannot understand how anyone can live in these places. Now it is probably 5 times as much.

I don't disagree, you can get on the high side of expense, but you pay for it last I saw.

Are you saying you have a Levittown house
and the construction is poor?
