The Jews themselves have been doing the research, they very much wanted it to be true. Even they now see they've been beating a dead horse. "Israeli archaeologist Ze'ev Herzog provides the current consensus view on the historicity of the Exodus: “The Israelites never were in Egypt. They never came from abroad. This whole chain is broken. It is not a historical one. It is a later legendary reconstruction—made in the seventh century [BCE]—of a history that never happened.” Just like the NT is a 'legendary reconstruction' of something that never happened. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Every study, including the ones you and others have linked to show that there was a certain migration, some legal and peaceful, others captured in war, of Near Eastern peoples and Canaanites into Egypt. Their cults and temples dot the landscape of important Egyptian cities and artwork. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

this one talks about all the things that are probably different from the biblical depiction - number of people involved, who that group of people were.
this statement and ones near it are the same sorts of admissions mentioned in the wikipedia article, that the exodus, if it happened, wasn't like it was described in the bible.
a lot of words in that one. I think a safe summary here is also: if it happened, it didn't happen like the bible said. "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts." Daniel Patrick Moynihan |

It happened but not exactly like the book of faith concerned with transmitting religious truths records it. This has been known for millennium. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

It's the same with everything in the Bible. IF it happened, it's nothing like it's described in scripture. Especially the NT. If Jesus existed, what he did and said got all blown out of proportion to what really happened. To the point that it would be unrecognizable to anybody who was there. It's how all urban legends get started. Nothing in the NT is reliable, it must all be considered myth. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

It is the truth, the most important truth - that necessary for salvation. But don't get it twisted. It is also historicaly true as seen through a religious lens. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Dalex64 Member since: Mar 8, 2014 Threads: 3 Posts: 3687 | So there is an entire culture and religion based on a founding story that has been shown to be inaccurate, and everyone has given up on trying to find out what really did happen. It is yet another story in the bible where we can point out and say it didn't happen that way, and the "what might have happened" is either wishful thinking, or labeled as no longer relevant. I think the truth to any and all of the events "documented" in the bible is very important, because entire cultures have based their societal rules and beliefs based on their belief at the time that the stories were true. If the stories are not true, all of the beliefs that use them as a foundation fall like a house of cards. The reasons and justifications for why things are the way they are lack a critical base of fact and truth. "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts."
