A priest can no more defend everything done in the name of the church for two millenium than an American can defened everything in the name of Our Country for the last two and half centuries,

Yet they keep doing it. Every era
is the victim of the times it lives
in, there is no hand of god
guiding anything. Just the whims
of men..
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

It is true, no one can defend everything done in the name of the Church during its history. Some is indefensible and truly the whims of evil men. However the hand of God continues to guide us all to choose the good.

Look at the Transatlantic Slave trade: 58% of the African slaves shipped to America were in the fifty years from 1726–1775. In 1740 there were 150,000 slaves out of a population of less then one million in colonial America.

Benedict XIV, Roman Catholic Pope from 1740 to 1758, made it a priority in his first year when he issued the bull Immensa pastorum principis, demanding more humane treatment for the Indians of Brazil and Paraguay.

You have to argue that Pope Benedict was very forward thinking humanitarian.

Is "The Exorcist" considered a pro-Catholic movie?

What exactly do Christians mean by "salvation"?

Am I supposed to be saved from some kind of imminent peril?

And what do they mean by "accepting Jesus as your personal savior? Is this like a personal shopper? Will a man dead for 2,000+ years offer some kind of personalized assistance in this mysterious "salvation" business?

I don't expect I'll comprehend any of this.

Nareed, although I am not a Mormon, the following video explains it.

Understanding what they are speaking about is another story.

Nicodemous was a very smart person and he couldn't understand, which is why he came to Jesus.

In a nutshell, it's about being able to access the Holy Spirit at will.

If atheism is really a religion as some people try to claim, then we really need to pick some good religious holidays to celebrate the great nothingness.

I'd say a requirement to always be able to pick what vacation days we want off every year would be a good religious observance to have.

"Great nothingness?"

Pshaw.

Sure, there is no god, but there is a world, a universe which we exist in.

That's a lot of "somethingness."

The issue isn't that there is nothing, it is that our lives are ephemeral and impermanent.
