We do have to have a healthy dose of critical study of the Sacred Scriptures so that we don't fall into the errors of blind faith or atheism.

That's what happened to Ehrman at
Moody Bible College. He took up the
serious study of the NT, found it to
be nothing like he was taught it was,
and became an atheist eventually.

You don't mean a real 'critical study',
you mean a biased one. If you did
study them with an open critical
mind, you would dump your religion
in a minute. It's the same reason Libs
won't listen to Rush Limbaugh.
They're scared common sense will
turn them into conservatives.

Bob I strive very hard to have an open critical mind. It is part of the reason I am not in love with Ehrman as you are. You like his conclusions much more than his scholarship.

It's the exact opposite. Have you'
read any of his books? He's
a true Bible scholar. His research
is impeccable. His work is loaded
with footnotes and references.
He's very hard to find fault with.

For instance, he's says the mythicists
are totally wrong about Jesus being
a real person. Ehrman says anybody
who knows how to research history
properly will find the existence of
Jesus undeniable. He wrote a whole
book just on that subject.

You'll read that book you'll agree with
him 100%. Yet when he has conclusions
that fly in the face of what you were
taught, then he's a useless idiot because
you do not have an open mind.

He is not a useless idiot, it sounds like your old strategy to say extreme things that I never said - it is a straw man and beneath you.

However, his research is not impeccable and having footnotes and references does not mean you are a great scholar. I have read some of his works, have you read any of the many books criticizing his work. You would do good to do so to round out your thinking on this issue.

They're a joke. Like most people
who debate him are a joke. He
buries them, that's why he's
the most in demand Bible
scholar speaker in the world.

So you haven't read them then. I take it you probably won't? :(

I've read articles by Xtian apologists,
listened to the people Ehrman
debates. They all have the same
boiler plate church approved
responses. You can tell none of
them have ever thought critically
about it, they just assume what
they were taught is the truth.

So you haven't read any scholarly books about it and don't plan to?

About what? Proof that god is
real? About their opinion of
if the Jesus story is real? Why
would an entire book be any
different than the articles I've
read, or the Biblical experts
I've listened to debate Ehrman.
What revelations are hidden
in their pages that haven't
popped up elsewhere.

I've read articles on alien abductions,
why would I need to read an
entire book about it. All books are
is strung together articles called
'chapters'. Ehrman has even published
chapters from his books as articles,
Many authors do.

Xtian apologists don't interest me,
they all sound the same and all
have the same tired, boring
agenda. If you're heard one of
them, you've heard all of them.
It's because they have nothing
of substance to work with except
opinion and anecdotal evidence.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

A simple question.

WWJC? (What would Jesus choose?)

Save the economy or save lives?

*naw I didn't give you the choice of healing everyone -- too easy.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?
