Are you saying this passage suggests rape?
No. 1Cor was written around 52AD and at that time Paul and many early Christians believed the Lord Jesus would return very soon. 1Cor15:51-52 mentions this as does the premise of this whole chapter about his advice of people staying in the state they are in. Paul's first letter was 1Thess. and you can see his eschatology clearly taught. This idea gradually developed and changed over time. To get the context of Paul's writings you need not only read 1Corinthians but know of his other writings as well. I do commend you once again in reading the text and researching it for yourself. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Also, not sure how many "few" are, but assuming it has to be less than 50% god is sending billions to the gate of eternal suffering and destruction and hell fire. Loving god that he is suppose to be. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |

The word that Matthew uses for "sexual immorality" is not the word for adultery or unfaithfulness. The other Gospel writers do not include this exception at all. Also Matthew does not say that divorce is acceptable for unfaithfulness only that one cannot marry a woman who has been divorced without committing adultery. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Again here context is very important. If you read before and after that challenging quote you will get a better sense of Jesus Rabbinic style of examples meant to shock and challenge. Before the narrow gate you hear Jesus talking about not judging and that if we ask our Heavenly Father He will give us what we need. These statements help us to understand what Jesus was getting at. He was also in particular challenging the Scribes and Pharisees who considered that they were the holiest of all people and had a lock on salvation. Also make sure not to miss Jesus' words saying that he wants us to strive and put effort forth for salvation. It is not just yours because you happen to be a Pharisee of considered "holy" by the world's standards. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

But that's what it means and what it's taken to mean. Unfaithfulness. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

You make me wish to actually challenge you in real life with walking through a narrow gate, vs a the wider path to destruction, letting you rationalize "destruction" in any way you wish. The gate will be over a bridge and the destruction will be off a cliff on either side. Try to put a spin on it then. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |

| rxwine Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 217 Posts: 22943 | I might note, Jesus common use of parable was not to maintain complexity, he was obviously what we call "breaking it down", so people could understand it. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |

Boy I would hate to hear your interpretation of going through the eye of a needle. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

The Greek word used is actually an interesting one, porneia and it does not mean unfaithfulness but more than that. However, the verse again does not permit divorce, in fact it ends by saying anyone who marries a divorced person commits adultery. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

This is what atheists so love about the NT. Every word of it can be twisted to say whatever you want it to say, and there are people who actually mold their entire lives around their interpretation. People so frightened to think for themselves that they take an obviously very flawed book and look for answers in it. Thank goodness we're moving away from that era of human history at a rapid pace, the sooner the better. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
