Only because they haven't figured out how to regulate it yet. I suspect the insurance companies will be the first. All share drivers will have to prove they have the right kind of insurance before they can drive. Right now you are not insured by your company if your drive for Uber, even if you have no passenger in your car. Using your car as a business without telling your insurance company means your policy is null and void if you have an accident. They always ask you what the car you want to insure will be used for. Lying is insurance fraud. Here's an interesting article from last year. And it's gotten much worse since then. Like I keep saying, there's a reason you get a driver so fast. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-fagin/life-as-an-uber-driver_b_4698299.html If you take a risk, you may lose. | petroglyph Member since: Aug 3, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 6227 | I tried to sign up for Uber in Lake Havasu and couldn't figure it out. So, I asked a tech and he said [she said], it hadn't gotten established yet? So, now I'm in Phoenix and needed a ride to the Mayo and thought I would try again. The first time, it creeped me out do to the info saying the app could know all kinds of stuff about me and the data on my phone, [not verbatim] but read my addresses or some such? When it got into me entering my credit info, partially do to my situation, I was overwhelmed. Partly because I needed medical transport after a colonoscopy. Trying to save a buck, and it didn't appear there were any [uber] drivers nearby and with an absolute appt. time, I needed the reassurance they would be on time. I had AZ's code at the ready. : ) The comments at the uber page on my phone had negative opinions. I need to try it from a position of strength, rather than when I am bogged down with other stuff. I have an upper limit of what I can deal with concurrently, and that limit lowers non-linearly with age and health. Anyway, the transport called early to let me know they were coming, I tried texting the number back and it didn't except texts,,, anxiety building. Then a big Escalade pulls up outside my camper, and all is well. These guys lean toward tipping like craps dealers, which I think is a bunch of fecal matter, hitting up people on their way to and from a hospital. I was too compromised to stand my ground. I didn't have exact change and they wanted an extra 5% if I used visa. First guy got a tip, this is after a 4 dollar per mile fee mind you! After sedation, the hospital won't turn you loose without someone to pass responsibility onto, so I needed the med guys. They came recommended by the Mayo so I trust them ok. What I still don't know is this. They gave me sedation named Verced, and I am not aware of anything else. One thing Verced does, is eliminate your memory for at least an hour. I don't know if that is a "bug" or a feature? I have had it before and came out of a procedure, a bit giddy. This time, I have no idea how I got dressed, or into a wheel chair and rolled out of the hospital, or the ride. I barely remember him being very large. Also, I checked the price before I hired them, and I emptied my wallet of most of my things and about 40 dollars extra, [just in case I was well enough to stop at a store] more than I needed for the ride. I don't remember paying the driver, and I must have tipped him pretty well as I have about 20 bucks left? They [the medical facility] advise you not to make any legal decisions for 24 hours or babysit kids or whatever. Those drivers that pick people up know they are still whacked out on sedation or anesthesia, those return drivers shouldn't collect tips from people that don't even know how they got dressed, or know if they got their shoes on the right feet. For less than a twenty minute ride this second guy must have gotten a 20 dollar plus tip? That sedation is dangerous stuff. The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury. GW |

Mikey, please keep us updated on how it is going from your perspective. Do you mind saying what city you are in? At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

I want to type in AZ's code so we both get a bonus. Can I do that when I sign up, or do I have to do it when I want a ride? One more, should I always look for codes? If so, this page has basically code of the day; http://www.offers.com/uber/?adposition=1t1&creative=87480194113&device=c&network=g&path=zzz-11cds-ncg-100c1a&source=s The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury. Yes, but I did it on a laptop as is is easier to see and enter at my age. Yes, they keep it on file for one-click booking. Thanks for support on the code, I want more free rides! War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

In a real cab co, they might have 50 cars and drivers because that's all they need for everybody to make money. With no lid on it, like with Uber, you have 200 drivers fighting for fares that 50 can handle. So Uber drivers are making squat in some places, and it will only get worse. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2016/06/23/leaked-documents-show-some-uber-drivers-barely-making-ends-meet/ If you take a risk, you may lose.
