This is why sin is not real, it's obviously
an invented concept so busybody religious
zealots can keep people in line.

Bob, these rules were rational and reasonable at other points in human history before we had reliable birth control and medical treatments for STDs.

For example, shortly after the first European syphilis outbreak in 1495, the disease killed 5 million people. Under those circumstances, I'm okay with the Church's role as a busybody prude.

The problem is, the Church still thinks it's 1495. Society has moved on. The Church hasn't.

And they were all Catholics, no Protestants yet.
So the 'rule' about sex wasn't working, is that
your point?

It's not that it wasn't working, it was not being followed. Do you think the way things are today are the way it should be. Yes, STDs are more treatable now but they are rampant. Abortions are happening at a rate of almost 1,000 a day and that is with at least 90% of the sexual active adults using contraception. It would be great to actually give Catholic teaching a chance and save sex for the committed relationship of marriage. Imagine what that would be like? It sure couldn't get much worse than it is right now.

Imagine the number of abortions if people weren't using contraception. I think the church needs to re-think its strategy on that one. Very few people are willing to be abstinant.

Is it the Church's teaching that needs to change or is it the above that should change?

It's very unhealthy for men to not have
regular ejaculations. It's bad for the
prostate, which produces seminal fluid.
Look it up, a man should have at least
2 ejaculations a week, no matter what
'god' says about it. Having to even say
this is beyond ridiculous. The fact that
men would endanger their health by
following 2000 year old teachings is
is the height of ego centered foolishness.

Using a very Catholic author to support Catholicism? Seems biased.

What is the practical reason from the chruch for abstinance? To prevent 6mm std deaths?

If that is so, then there are alternatives that don't negatively affect what a person percieves as the quality of life so much, and will be more effective.

If a person follows the church's prohibition on contraception, but not abstrnance, you end up with stds and unwanted pregnancies.

Why not ALSO promote contraception?

So yes, the church's positions on abstinance and contraception should change, to fit with the times. Clinging to traditions that fewer people are willing to believe in and follow is one of the reasons for the decline in interest in the church.

You know what is absolutely ridiculous is you saying this and pretending it is fact, when it is wrong. I feel embarrassed for having to educate you on these things but here is one site you can begin to learn about it from; facts about semen .
