Some already do. I think our current longest is 34 at least; she's carrying on to put her daughter through college. She's the only situation I'm privy to, but it's not terribly uncommon for guys to go full pull and keep on going. I don't get it AT ALL. And no, they most definitely WERE kidding. These things have as much life left in them as Walt Disney's frozen head.
You apply for a position ("craft"), not just to a pool of labor. I applied specifically for rural carrier, those at the desk either did likewise or did a lateral movement from one craft within the PO to the craft of clerk. Clerk covers customer service desk as well as myriad other tasks, like receiving, sorting, accountables, passports, etc. Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it. |
