A show that should be cancelled, Last Man on Earth.
The 43min pilot felt 2hrs long. Stupid, baffling, not
what any real person would do. It's so ridiculous
it's not worth giving details. Yet this piece of crap
has good reviews and ratings. Are viewers really
this brain dead? I watched ep 3, that's it. (pilot
was 1 &2) Sophomoric beyond belief.

They used to call TV the boob tube back in the 1960's with Mr Ed and Gilligan's Island.

Renewing Last Man on Earth ushers broadcast into a new era of the infantile. The show ended up with a ratings of (18-49 demo/Total Viewers) 1.63/3.99 (millions), but viewership was way below those numbers for the 2nd half.

So TV is now catering to about 3-4 million viewers and that is worth being renewed.

The show is beyond stupid. A virus killed
everybody, where are the bodies, they
would be everywhere. He chooses to
live in a state where there is no water
and it's over 100 most of the year. He
drives all over the country in a gas
guzzler when there is no way to get gas
with electric gone. He lives in a mansion,
but instead of moving to the next one
when he fouls the place up, he just stays
there. Instead of digging a hole for an
outhouse, he craps in the swimming pool
and stinks up the place. He fills a kiddie
pool with marguerita mix and lays in it
with a straw.

He's 41 and act like he's 19. All he wants
is sex, yet when a woman shows up he
tries to get away from her because she's
not his dream girl. They get married and
immediately a beautiful girl does show
up but he's married now.

It's on a par with Gilligans Island for plot
devices, but it's not funny, it's insulting.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Network no early announcements Renew Predict Cancel
ABC
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. <---renew-----------------Agent Carter
black-ish <---renew-----------------American Crime
Castle Cristela
Fresh Off the Boat Forever
The Goldbergs <----renew---------------- Galavant
Grey's Anatomy Resurrection
How To Get Away With Murder
Last Man Standing
The Middle
Modern Family
Nashville
Once Upon A Time
Scandal
Secrets & Lies

It looks like the networks are being a little more conservative. Instead of cancelling shows "in case there is something better out there" they are keeping more marginal shows.

ABC only cancelled three scripted shows Cristela, Forever, and Resurrection (in addition to the three that were cancelled during their run). Manhattan Love Story, Revenge,Selfie.

I'm bummed that ABC cancelled "Forever". The "Highlander" meets "Quicy" crossover was fun and I enjoyed Alana De La Garza... Too bad.

I saw the pilot and there just wasn't
enough of a hook to give it legs, I
thought. Look at a show like Blacklist.
A hugely talented star, James Spader,
plays a powerful mystery man who
knows just about everybody and is
into everything. That's a huge hook,
even though he's not in even half
the scenes. His presence is there and
that's all it takes.

Well it is NBC's biggest scripted show, by a good margin. But it also has a lead in with their biggest reality show.

Lead in shows are very important, even though it takes so little effort to change the channel. After Ted Danson announced that he was leaving the series, NBC wanted to continue the series by having Woody take over the bar. But Woody Harrelson refused to continue with the series without Danson.

Seinfeld was then moved from Wednesday night to Thursday night after Cheers as a potential replacement. Ratings immediately jumped by 50% and for the remaining five years it was the top sitcom and made Jerry one of the richest TV actors of all time.

I had never heard that but I did hear that the cast convinced Danson to stay the last year that he did. In the end it was time for "Cheers" to end. It was an 80s show with and 80s feel that lasted into the 1990s. Kind of like the "Rural Purge" at CBS a generation before where even though the shows were doing "OK" their best day were behind them and they looked very old next to the new stuff.

The thing was NBC owned Thursdays for 20 years because it was able to only replace 1 show at a time, the rest of the lineup stayed intact and the viewers accepted it. If you didn't watch you were out of the loop at the coffee machine the next day.
