Domestic 58,486,000 subscribers revenue average $130.74 per subscriber per year International 80,773,000 subscribers, revenue average $96.35 per subscriber per year They may have decided that they have all the domestic subscribers as they are going to get. If they raise the revenue $24 per subscriber per year, that will increase revenue by 18.36%. But just getting new domestic subscriptions they would have to increase by over 10 million next year to get 18.36%. As the total went up by just over 5 million last year that may be impossible. By the end of March the predictions are 60.09 million domestic subscribers and 88.07 million international subscribers. HBO has over 140 million subscribers around the world, and Amazon Prime has over 100 million. I think Hulu is at about 25 million subscribers to it's video on demand service (not Live TV). Hulu advertising revenue is roughly $1.5 billion for 2018 (total revenue is not disclosed), while Netflix revenue is $15.8 billion from all sources. Hulu is a money losing enterprise at close to a billion dollars a year. =============================================== AT&T may come out with a streaming service of live and video on demand of all their channels. If it costs ~$22-$25 a month it may sell very well.
AT&T sells this package for $15 a month (one stream at a time), but there is no HBO

Just listened to The Motley Fool commentary on Netflix. Average person watches 1.5 hours per day and they are something like 10% of all TV consumed. The double worry is that at some point people will go for a cheaper alternative, they will not care about OITNB so much to keep paying, OR they will binge-and-cancel. Second worry is that it is clear that Netflix is going to have to make more and more of their own content. I am happy seeing older movies on the platform (Still shakin it , Boss!) but Gen X and up is not going to build their brand. People will want newer options. Something will have to give. I predict that at $15-20 is when people start to look elsewhere. $20 is still about a dollar a day of course, but if you do not watch enough then you question it. Same as ESPN finally pissed off enough people to cut the cord. The answer for Netflix just a thought is to get "key" sponsors for a whole show. "Ozark, brought to you by Ford." "Orange is the New Black, brought to you by Hillary for America!" One commercial in the beginning then that is it. Or maybe not. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

Hulu with commercials went on sale over Christmas for 99 cents per month (good for one year). Streaming products with commercials are widely available for free. I suspect that Netflix shows will continue with product placement. A recent Netflix movie, "Like Father" was full or product placement with Royal Caribbean dominating, but with Ray Ban sunglasses and other paraphernalia throughout the movie. ![]() ![]() One of the cleverest product placement's ever in movies was Scarlett Johannsen (the clone in "The Island" in 2005) sees an advertisement of the model who can afford to buy a clone of herself for spare body parts. The CK ad was actually in play at the same time the movie was released. ![]() Scarlett Johannsen had done a dozen art house movies and a bunch of cameos before appearing in the big budget film, The Island. It did so poorly that she went back to Art House films for another 5 years until she got the Black Widow role. |

| Wizard Administrator Member since: Oct 23, 2012 Threads: 241 Posts: 6108 | I apologize if this has been brought up before, but I highly recommend Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. Not only does this tell a great story but it reverberates with me personally. I've been mixed up in the online gambling world for 19 years now. Not many people can make that claim. I can't name any, come to think of it, other than me. While there are good people in the business, it is infested with kids under the age of 30 with no real job skills and just looking to make easy money and party doing it. That was a good watch - such a shame all those people got bamboozled (yes, even trust fund babies who spend their trust funds on EDM festivals deserve sympathy when being swindled) |

Did you know much about the story before you watched it? I think I already know most of it so I am not sure I would benefit from watching it. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |
