I'm still waiting for a real survivor show. Like Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 type survivor. You get one bag of luggage and that's it. You need any assistance whatsoever, you're out. Need medical attention, you're out. Cry Uncle, you're out. Last man standing wins.

You can still have hot people. I think it'd be a riot.

You might like the movie Alive. Granted it is a movie but based on actual events.

I very much enjoyed the documentary. After that, I think any movie would be a let down.

But seriously. Maybe I'm the oddball, but I think it would be neat. Basically "Castaway", but real. And without the plane crash. I would like to see how people cope, how people rise to challenges, how they handle adversity. I haven't watched Survivor in a very long time, but last I saw, it was like a very long game show separated by nights of tenting. All the adversity is manufactured. All the challenge is strictly social. That's no fun.

Just send 20 guys out. Last one back wins. I'd sign up for that. I'd watch it, too.
Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it.

On Survivor this week there was one team with 9 players and the other with 6. Then they randomly divided into three teams of five each. Two of the new teams were composed of members of only one previous team.

In other words, let's say team A previously had 9 players and team B had 6. The new teams were:

1. AAAAA
2. BBBBB
3. AAAAB

On the show they asked what the odds were. What is the answer?

There are combin(9,5)=126 ways to pick 5 players out of the 9 on team A. There are 6 ways to pick 5 out of 6 players from B. Team 3 is just what is left. There are 15!/(5!*5!*5!) = 756,756 ways to pick three groups of 5 out of 15. So, the probability is (126*6)/756756 = 1/1001.
