Nothing underground.
Take my area. We have one casino so it totally sucks. No competition and they take advantage of this. Its Indian. Seminole Hard Rock Tampa.
We do have 3 poker rooms in town so a lot of competition in that area which makes for nice poker rooms.

Sometimes, when the urge hits me, will go out and play poker. Generally the lower the stakes, the more friendly the table. In Tampa we have real cheap cash games, 1-1. Not a lot at stake so the games are usually friendly. Its a fun way to kill some time playing a game with other people and having some social interaction.

Not sure exactly where you live and laws regarding who can have a poker room and if there are any near you.

The first step is to ask yourself what it is you want in a social life. Are you looking for a steady girlfriend? Hookups with a stream of Hicksville divorcees? A few friends to watch the game with? A hangout where there is always someone to chat with?

Frankly, I really don't see any real difference. Some casinos, BJ tables right by the poker room.
Some poker rooms can be pretty nice.
Take Silks at Tampa bay downs, they spent a lot of money making a nice poker room, New tables, HI def TVS all over the place showing sports and horse races. Excellent food. Not seedy at all. All totally legal.

Well I would suggest finding things to do that draw a male interest. This does NOT mean hanging at a bar. It means some other kind of activity. Back in Rochester I joined the Jaycees. Some people joined a group there called "Single Volunteers," that one always drew far more women than men FWIW. Take a class on something you are interested in. See what is advertised in "groups" on CL.

The common key is get where there will be people to talk to. Then get to know some. But be realistic. Guys over 30 don't go bouncing anymore. Life in general is not what we see on TV.
