There are people who think 911 is a defense weapon.
They're usually called 'dead victims' later. It would never
even dawn on me to call 911.

Rush Limbaugh played an Obama parody where he threatens to 'unfriend' Boko Haram on Facebook unless they return the kidnapped girls. Sounds like our friend in Canada has the same mentality.

Not everything is black and white. The definition of "hero" certainly isn't. Doesn't make for good internet banter though when one side backs down, though.

Probably the best deterrent for someone entering a house is an active and loud alarm, over a gun. We've had one everywhere we've gone. Works like a charm. Loud noise made, 911 automatically contacted, police at the door in 3-5 minutes. A police station down the street helps too. That's what I meant by deterrent. When Juliani upped police presence in NYC, crime dropped dramatically. That's what I meant by deterrent.

Given that Canadians are not allowed to have loaded guns at their bedsides, by your logic, the lack of deterrence should lead to unfettered crime, rapes, and home invasions, here in Canada, which is not the case.

As I said, this neighborhood that I live in has well over 3,000 homes and has been around for 10 years, with no home invasions in that period.

America, land of anxiety.

LOL!

Simple question: If you're a criminal, are you going to rob an unarmed person or a person with a gun?

(Don't worry, I'm not expecting a straight answer. lol)

You will rob the unarmed person if you know he's unarmed. In Canada, everyone except the police and other criminals are unarmed, yet somehow I feel much safer walking the streets of downtown Toronto over downtown pretty much anywhere in the USA. Now why is that?

If you advertise that you have an alarm on your house, is a robber going to break into your house or into the house next door that's unlocked?

(don't worry, I'm not expecting a straight answer, lol).

No wonder so many move to the US. Good grief.

It is a proven fact that an alarm sign, with or without an alarm, will deter criminals. Their thought process is, "why take a chance?" The only time this would not work is if you are dealing with pro-burglars who know something you have in your house that they want to take. For example, coins, jewels, cash, etc.

For this same reason, crooks will avoid places that they think the homeowner might be armed. Why take a chance?

Kind of surprised you want to make the gun rights point for us.

"In 2009, there were 237 incidents (property crime) for every 1,000 households in Canada, compared with 218 incidents in 1999."

Gee, Canada is almost crime free. lol
