That you can't regret doing something if you learned from it. I've done things that didn't turn out well, but I also learned something doing it. No regrets involved. Regrets are for people who learn nothing from anything.
I don't have a better version, just the ongoing one. Same as you..
Those are the ones just smart enough to realize they're clueless. I have a nephew like that, he only feels good when he's high on weed. Did your god put that there for him? If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

You emphasis on ongoing change in you is also a good sign. God bless you! “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Is this patronizing, or what. You sound like my grade school teacher, do I get a gold star? Anybody with half a brain learns from from what they do. How many times do you have to touch a hot stove before you don't do that anymore. I don't get what any of this has to do with god. Did you think atheists were so stupid they are incapable of learning? If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

FrGamble Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 67 Posts: 7596 | Remember the title of this thread, Original Sin? I have just been trying to point out to you over and over again that the human condition is such that we all make regrettable decisions and choices that we learn from and attempt to get better from. At least that is what we should do when we sin, but the reality is that all sin, all make mistakes. I wish everybody, atheists and theists would learn from what they do, but we often don't. We are so good and capable of such beauty and at the same time we are so stupid and prone to do what we know is wrong. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

So you stay up nights worrying about people not learning from their mistakes? Is that what you do, run around trying to 'fix' people, whether they want it or not? You act like somebody appointed you the moral arbiter of society. Believe me, you're not. You have just as many faults as anybody else, you make just as many mistakes. So what. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I don't recognize it at all, I have no idea what you're talking about. This reminds me of Music Man. Harold Hill comes to town and convinces them that without a band to join, the youth would become juvenile delinquents. That feels like what's going on here. You convince people they're 'broken' (whatever that means) and you just happen to have the cure. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

FrGamble Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 67 Posts: 7596 | I really doubt that anyone has to convince anyone that we struggle to live up to the standards we set for ourselves, much less the standards of God. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

I still don't see what living up to standards we set has anything to do with anything. God has none, he's imaginary. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25011 | I read that St Jerome never bathed once in his life, and was proud of it. Romans were famous for being clean, public baths were all over Rome. But there was a lot of debauchery in the baths, and the Church eventually got rid of them. It gradually came to be accepted that bathing was not what god wanted, it meant you were displaying pride if you were clean and wore clean clothes. So people basically didn't bath very often, if at all. It was sinful, an insult to god because you were being prideful. Some queen in the Middle Ages bragged she had two baths in her life, when she was born, and after she gave birth to her only child. Oh boy. Makes me wonder why god didn't do better on the 10 Commandments. Like, cleanliness is next to godliness. And all forms of slavery are an abomination in gods eyes. Imagine the millions of lives that would have been immensely made better or saved. But god didn't write the commandments, there is no god. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
