Bob, no one is saying your a bad person so don't look at the question that way and get all defensive. .

I wasn't being defensive in the slightest,
do I seem that thin skinned to you? I
just find being unhappy with who you
are to be a giant waste of time. You can't
really change, why even try. Learn to live
with who you are, you'll much better off.

If not defensive than defeatist.

There you go again assuming that in wanting to better yourself means that you must be unhappy with who you are. Be happy with who you are, but do not become content, unless you think you have reached perfection - and I know you don't think you are perfect.

God loves you just the way you are, but loves you too much to leave you there.

Okay, we don't need to go down that path again and discuss how slavery was different than we conceive it today, etc., etc.
:

So, if slavery was practiced today the way it was practiced 2,000 years ago, the church would be ok with it and speak out against it no more strongly than they did then?

You missed your calling, you are an attorney
at heart. You constantly read things into
what I write that aren't true. I'm not at
all unhappy with who I am, why would I
be.

What's wrong with contentment, happy people
are contented people. They like themselves,
they have no regrets. In your Church that's
probably a sin, an offense to your god.

Apparently that's the case. It was so weak
and so tolerated, nobody in Jesus time
found a thing wrong with it. I guess we
would hardly even notice it if it was here
today.

We do seem to tolerate prisons, the idea of working off a debt, and overworked poorly paid workers. The Church speaks out strongly against this last one and advocates for a just and living wage for all working people.

It is foolish people or liars who have no regrets.

What is? Thinking that you are perfect already? Yeah that would be a sinful attitude. Do you mean those who think so poorly of themselves that they feel they can't improve or get any better? Yep, that is a sinful attitude as well.

Or it's people who really have no regrets.
If I have regrets, I don't know what they
are. Or they are so small I don't count
them as anything, let alone a regret.
If you learn from everything, where is
the regret in that. They asked Edison
if he regretted trying 3000 different
materials for the filament for the
light bulb. Not at all, he replied. I
learned 3000 ways not to build it.

I don't believe in perfection, remember?

Get better than what? Better than yourself?
Am I supposed to try and be like someone
else, is that what you mean? Why would I
do that, sounds like frustrating waste of
time when you already like who you are.

That is a great quote and it demonstrates the perseverance needed to keep trying to improve and never give up. I don't know what it really has to say about regret?

Nope, just to try to be a better version of yourself, like trying a new filament for a light bulb so you can burn even brighter and shine more light into the world.

I don't know I've meet some dumb people who don't seem very happy and are even a little cranky at times.
