Glad it makes sense to someone, because it doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I think Blasé Pascal said it best when he wrote about Original Sin, here is a little quote from him:

How about we realize we are the only living species that finds it necessary to seek supernatural explanations for our existence...the honeybee...the lion...the dog...all just exist and live their lives...as nature intended

FrG; Appreciated the Blaise Pascal quote. Thanks for that.

Is this connection between Satan and snakes why some churches feature snake handling?

Luke 10:19 King James Version (KJV)
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

I don't think the snakes are being venerated in any way.

I think FrG will say that the atheist will have to serve his due time in purgatory but will eventually make it to heaven, unless he was a hopeless case, in which case he goes straight to hell and stays there. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I am not Catholic, but that is correct as far as I have read. Purgatory is not a place where a judgement is made. If you go to purgatory, you are bound for heaven, but you need some preliminary work.

Now "limbo" is different, but it is also not Catholic dogma.

PS: I am sorry if I am repeating points here, this thread is very lengthy and I am just skimming.

We're also the only living species that can comprehend our own mortality. Correlation doesn't necessarily mean causation, but I think it does in this case.

Just how often do you go around wondering about a supposed conversation between a talking snake and some Neanderthal woman, particularly when there is no real evidence that the talking snake ever existed.

Man created God.

Then who created man (or matter)?
