I expect the net effect after the shutdown ends, is that they're still a bad idea. Then after whatever necessary time period all the focus will be on the Trump economy, and the majority will suddenly realize who is in charge again. And I don't mean the Stock Market.

Democrats weren't exactly enthused with Schumer even before this.

That may be what the democrats want, but it is not what the republicans want, and it is one of the issues Trump ran on and now he is delivering.

As much as I loathe Trump, the man, at least I accept the reality that more voting Americans want to end the ACA than to have it continue: otherwise he would not have been elected with that as one of his promises.

You can’t figure out what 2 + 2 is? The decrease in flights is a SAFETY response to ATC’s not showing up to work due to the Schumer shutdown. ALL on the Democrats. But enough sensible Democrats (an oxymoron?) are breaking with Schumer, so this (flight cancellations) shall pass.
As far as the ‘food stamps’, that issue will also be over. Just needed the slightest bit of pressure on the Democrats to resume SNAP funding and open the rest of the government as well.

Looking to the future…. A year from today we will have a slightly Republican Senate, a slightly Democrat House, and Trump! If you think this present group of fools couldn’t agree on anything, wait until egomaniacal Trump threatens to veto pretty much EVERYTHING Jeffries sends his way!

Nope. Schumer didn’t cave. Til the end he was against re-opening the government. If you must use the word cave, as opposed to ‘come to their senses’, then you’d need to use it for the few remaining ‘moderate’ Democrats.

I do believe that there will be enough Republicans that don’t want to lose the 1/8 of Americans that use ACA subsidies to keep some form of the ACA subsidies. Probably slightly decreased so the Republicans can save face, but mostly intact so the Democrats can hail ‘a win for the American people’.

I believe two of the democrats who "caved" were women from the great state of New Hampshire, whose motto is "Live Free or Die."

The problem with the idea, and it doesn't just apply to Schumer or just this vote. When people finally know the vote count, you don't really know. Why? Because this supplies cover for people to pretend, they were voting one way all along because they can seek safe harbor from their constituency.

Once they know their vote won't matter, why shoot themselves in the foot? The rest can pretend they would have been for it (or against). It's like the old "hold me back" or I might hurt the guy. Yeah, right.

I don't think Schumer is getting a break either way, but that's based on past behavior.

Trump’s pen can now end the Schumer shutdown. What did the Democrat’s accomplish other than inflicting pain on a diverse group of their constituents? NOTHING. The House/Senate can now debate the ACA. LIKE IT ALWAYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN. Johnson’s decision to not negotiate with terrorists worked perfectly.

There will now be debate on the ACA subsidies. And a vote. So it will be clear who either extended the subsidies or who killed them. And a year from today you can vote out someone if they didn’t do what you wanted. LIKE IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE.

Stupid Democrats causing immense harm for NOTHING.
