It means ‘something’. It was a clear win for the Democrats. But more significant in its symbolic nature than actual power.

Segueing…. I read a little about SNAP. OVER 40 MILLION Americans qualify. Around one in eight Americans, to put it frankly, can’t afford to feed themselves. One in Eight. One in eight can’t (or won’t) find work that pays enough to feed themselves and their family. One in eight depends DIRECTLY on the federal government to feed them.
That’s 1 in 8 that vote Democrat before any other factors are in play. It’s amazing any Republicans get elected.

That's not even true. You would be shocked at how many Republicans on on food stamps. Go to any trailer park in a rundown part of a rural town...

Approximately 10% of Republicans and 20% of Dems have received food stamps at least once in their life. Sure this is twice as many Dems, but it's not close to all recipients being Dems....

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/31/us/fact-check-trump-snap-food-stamps.html

The idea that 100% of food stamp recipients vote Democrat is false. It should be true, because Republicans would be fine with them dying, but sadly most Republicans on food stamps live in isolated rural areas and are very much in a propaganda bubble.

If the Dems believe that they can continue to do shutdowns, and the Republicans will get the blame, we are really in for it. Ho hum? Hope you like shutdowns

So far, the majority is blaming the Republicans for the shutdown.

For the Dems, the current shutdown is the next best thing to the Covid shutdown.

It’s in their best interest to prolong the shutdown and sabotage the economy before the mid-terms. Similar to the way the Covid shutdown destroyed the economy before the 2020 elections. Commerce is slowing. Government spending is stalled. Airport flights are being cancelled. SNAP and WIC benefits are stalled, lowering monthly consumer spending by billions of dollars. The cumulative effect will result in lower or GDP growth, lower corporate profits, layoffs, bankruptcies, and business closures. Perfect.

Republicans hold the house, senate, and Presidency and they've decided to govern like they're the only party there.

So, maybe that's why they are getting more of the blame.

They are getting the blame because (most?) of the public is stupid. Multiple ‘only thing this bill does is keep the government open’ bills have been rejected by the Democrats. They are (read Tanko’s post above) intentionally sabotaging the economy, hurting the poor, crippling the airline industry, etc.. for the sole purpose of making America worse again and blaming the Republicans. (They seem to be doing a good job of it, by the way!).

The shutdown is a Democrat Party shutdown. Any other interpretation is just stupid.

Why should they cave in to the democrats, given they hold all the cards?

Will the filibuster soon go bye-bye?

Reports are enough Democrats came to their senses and will vote to end the shutdown. With no extension of the ACA subsidies. As it should have been done a month ago! If the Republicans do not funnel money to the 40 million Americans dependent on the ACA, then the Democrats can run on that. Once you give someone something for free and then stop they don’t like it.

But it’s what SHOULD happen. Open the government. Then decide on the ACA subsidy. Why it took the Democrats a month of torturing the American public…. It’s another reason I’m an ‘’anti-Democrat’.

Dems aren't the one who refuse to issue November food stamps. That's all Donny. Dems aren't the ones who cancelled thousands of flights, and threatening to raise a ruckus travelwise for Thanksgiving. That's all Donny.
