I’ll post here instead of the ‘Why I hate the Democrats’ thread. Last shutdown I believe cost the government and country as a whole 10’s (100’s?) of billions of dollars while accomplishing ABSOLUTELY nothing.

So there was a bipartisan effort to prevent this from happening again, with a bunch of bills already passed, and a bunch more AGREED to. You got to (finally!) love bipartisanship.

Except now the Democrats want to hold the ‘country’ hostage again. They want to back out of the AGREED to funding of Homeland Security, which includes ICE. In agreeing to ‘the total package’, concessions were made by both sides. That’s what a bipartisan effort yields! But now the Democrats want to hold the country hostage again, as that seems to be their new strategy.

And of course they will somehow babble their way into saying it’s the Republican’s fault. How anyone can vote for a party like the Democrats is beyond me. I guess except that you really only have one other not so great choice….

So you only hate shutdowns when Dems are leading the charge?

Nope. As a concept, I hate all government shutdowns. And I specifically hate that it basically is a Democrat party platform plank now…. ‘We don’t know how to accomplish anything without threatening to shut down the government’…..

There should be a bipartisan effort to prevent EITHER side from using this tactic.

If there is no budget ‘deal’ then keep these departments funded at last years levels. Problem solved.

Reminder, I don’t consider myself a Republican as there are too many problems with THAT party now. I call myself ‘an anti-Democrat’. More accurate description of my political views now.

This faux government shutdown is over. A few (21, actually) of the 200+ Democrat Representatives voted with the majority of Republicans to fund the government.

As a reminder, DEMOCRAT LEADERSHIP (Jeffries) voted to keep the government ‘closed’. Not a single NY or California House Democrat voted to keep the government open. The 21 Dems who broke ranks basically said they could now work on the ‘ICE problem’. The way it SHOULD work.
