Many successful criminal defense attorneys "make their bones" and jump-start their career by starting out with the district attorney, not as public defenders.

They build the necessary relationships with the DA's office, a thing of great benefit later, especially if they wish to pursue a career in politics.

A former law school acquaintance of mine became a public defender and over his career he had two marriages implode and he got several DUI's, due apparently to the stress of his job and likely frustration over his career choice.

I dabbled in criminal law and while I enjoyed it I lacked the foundation to specialize in that field: no regrets.

TV and movies made law a sexy profession by the mid 1980s. But I think starting in the late 2000s word is out about the reality. First clue is how out of gender balance law schools are getting. Men notice this kind of thing first and bail. Women more keep the faith. They should tell you in pre-law classes that the greatest chance a lawyer will have of seeing a courtroom is to get a DUI. That sales is going to be a huge part of the job. That you aint gonna make partner.

And the fun paying off a six figure student loan.
War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength

And yet...some of the "lesser lights," myself included, somehow manage to make an enjoyable, profitable career out of the law.

Go figure.

But it ain't a Boys' Club: more than half of law school grads are women.

The internet is a fun place, you can be anything you want to be. You're a lawyer this week, why don't you pretend to be a cowboy next week and brag about all your Rodeo wins. Nobody believes you are a former attorney, you say way too many stupid things. And if you were an attorney your student loan probably would have been three digits. $950 for law school in Guatemala.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Jealous, are ya old boy?

As well you should be.

I own several properties and actually live with my wife: she's my best friend.

Whereas you live alone in a hovel, estranged from your long-suffering wife and have pillow talk with your horde of 20 or so feral cats.

What makes you think EB’s cats are feral?

And I own the Taj Mahal and have 13 wives and they're all my best friends. See that, you can be anything you want to be on the internet. Did you have to learn Spanish when you went to law school in Guatemala, or was it so bad you didn't even have to speak the language. Just show up twice a week and you get a diploma at the end of it. $950 well spent

I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but yeah, you're right: he probably stole them from his neighbors.

The Dims have a chance in Maine to win the Senate seat in 2026. The leader in their primary only got one tattoo with Nazi symbolism. All reports that he got multiple ones are false. He has changed it to a pleasant Irish tattoo. He says he didn’t know it had Naxi origins when he got it. Sure, Jan….

Says the guy spending the last 2 years defending Hegesths tattoos which are actually and clearly Nazi symbols...

(I don't know anything about the Maine Senate candidate or who the name really is, or the tattoos, not the point, you just have no basis to be critical of Nazi tattoos.)
