I was (sort of?) joking in a previous post… butttt….. There are only 60k or so Greenlanders. I’m guessing they are not a wealthy bunch. If Musk offered EACH citizen of Greenland $1million wouldn’t they vote to take it? They’d still retain fishing/hunting/ancestral rights. Just give up claims to ores, and allow military bases, scientific stations, missile defense thingies. We’d even give them a non voting Congressional representative. Sort of like Puerto Rico of the north. As you are in your poorly insulated, crumbling roads, dial up Internet house, you don’t take the $4 million for your dentally challenged wife, yourself, and your two barely literate kids? If Canada offered me and wifey $2million I start singing Oh, Canada tomorrow. (Maybe?)

I have heard the "offer them all $1 million" thing before, maybe here, but it is an interesting idea. To be palatable it would have to be in the form of a territorial sovereign wealth fund of some sort or else half the population would be dead in 5 years. Turn it into Guam with snow.

As to your offer from Canada, don't jump so fast. $1 million Canadian becomes $700K US. Taxes will take almost half of that, say it leaves $400K. A nice payday but not worth it just to have a Tim Horton's on every corner and have to watch CFL games.

Get paid to live in Alaska with oil dividend checks.

But the trick is to devalue the currency it's paid in.
