Good. Let someone younger take his spot. He’ll be 68 starting his next term if he ran. I’m surprised Nevada only has one GOP in the House. I’ve decided no one older than me should run for anything. |

There's a reason why the FAA has a mandatory retirement age for certain pilots... |

Duh, maybe because there is a big difference between flying an airplane and being a politician? |

Perhaps, but i want my decision makers to be rational and unaddled. I mean, some state judiciaries have mandatory retirement ages for their judges. And they aren't pilots either. Carry on! |

Fine. Just PLEASE never whine about the .01% that can’t figure out how to get an ID of any sort not being allowed to vote somewhere. Democrats have essentially announced they are trying to silence the voices of X million of their citizens. You know, since Ralph did something bad, I’m going to do it badder! California wants to hasten the exodus of the Republicans who feel disenfranchised? Seems like they legally can. More tax dollars to flee the state.
Republicans have been doing this for decades. At least Democrats are doing it honorably by having a proposition vote on it. Congressional redistricting has nothing to do with people leaving the State.
Not true. It’s just another straw on the camels back. You can’t know which straw was the one that broke the camels back. You don’t think some of the politicians, and those that fill their offices, that will be ousted won’t leave for Texas or Florida or …. I think some will. And they won’t be those who are filling Cali’s homeless encampments, or illegals working under the table. I live in a huge Floridian retirement community. You can’t go a day without someone saying they are here because of the political mess that is NY. But to be clear, it’s not the reason I’m here.
I simply don't agree with that. Federal voting districts have no effect to local life, nobody is fleeing for that reason. Why move to FL if not for politics and tax breaks? And, what part of FL?
Ummmmm….. I golfed this morning, then spent some time in the hot tub, between pleasant dog walks. It’s dropping to -2 F in Buffalo tonight so no tee time, no hot tub luxuriating, and no miserable unpleasant dog walks there! I live in The Villages. Just north of Orlando, and South of Ocala. I think we are up to a population of 140,000. You literally can get everywhere in a golf cart. It’s not free here, but much cheaper than you’d think.
Yes, but there are lots of places in the U.S. (and outside,) that have warm weather (many debatable better than FL because no summer humidity.) I am not bashing you or saying it's a bad place to live, I am genuinely asking why FL, especially villages, you are not even on or near the beach or any natural area to my understanding? (Which to me is the only draw of FL.)
I’ll hijack this thread to answer for a bit. But I’ll start with a small negative that is germane to the thread. Maybe more ‘Trumpers’ here than anywhere else in the country. But not a bother if you don’t let it bother you. First of all, I still live in Buffalo May-October. So not subject to the hot/humid summers. The Villages is immaculately kept. Just beautiful throughout. Most important for me are the 60 or so golf courses I can drive my personal golf cart to. I can play the 9 hole executive courses essentially for free. And the really nice ‘Championship’ 18 hole courses are really nice, and reasonably priced. It’s early February and I golfed then sat in my hot tub. It’s also convenient to get back to Buffalo. Plenty of direct flights from Orlando to Buffalo. Which is important to us. And a (sort of) reasonable drive twice a year. Once there. Once back. Well maintained dog parks. Dozens of heated public pools. Innumerable Pickleball/Tennis/Bocce/Shuffleboard/Horseshoe courses Polo field. Softball fields. Town squares with a band every night. Cheap restaurants. I specifically did NOT want to live by the ocean here. I know two people who did whose houses literally don’t exist anymore.
That is fair if you only live there in the winter. From my perspective, if I lived there year round, and did not live on the coast, there are many better climates. For example California and Arizona are pretty constant year round (obviously depending on what area.) |

I would have liked Phoenix area. But wifey thinks the desert is plain ugly. And also not as convenient to return trips to Buffalo. We do have a (very rich) friend who has a house in Scottsdale and he goes there for 3 or 4 day weekends all winter. I don’t like flying that much. |

| SOOPOO Member since: Feb 19, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 5742 | I read a poorly written article this morning. Seems like Trump disinvited one governor from some luncheon for all the governors that is some sort of bipartisan thingie. The disinvited governor is the only Black governor in the USA. Can’t ascertain from the article the reason given. Seems to me if I’m a colleague I’d have to now decline my invitation. There must be more to this that I don’t know. |

| Tanko Member since: Aug 15, 2019 Threads: 0 Posts: 2470 | He disinvited two governors from the luncheon. Moore was disinvited possibly because he refused Trump's request to deploy the National guard in Baltimore, where the homicide rate remains 100% higher than the national average, despite a reported 'lowest homicide rate in fifty years'. Among other issues, Colorado Governor Polis was possibly disinvited over his refusal to transfer a convicted county clerk to a federal prison. https://thedailyrecord.com/2026/02/09/trump-excludes-democratic-governors-nga-white-house-events/ |
