It seems like Ramaswamy is going for the Trump crowd on the off chance Trump backs out. I need to read a little bit about Tim Scott as I am not familiar with him but he seems likeable.

He did not have a breakout moment in the mess that was this debate. Perhaps when one or two of them drop out, he will get more time. Unless Trump comes to the next one...then it will be all about him from every angle.

The debate pretty much went the way I thought it would. The only way to keep people within time limits is to body slam them (RIP, Terry Funk) or to turn off their microphones a few seconds after the buzzer. Everyone has their talking points and only so much time to get them in. Maybe they should hit the buzzer if they do not at least start with the answer to the question posed.

They need a secondary sound. An ah ooga horn, or a train horn. They could also use a "sad trombone" sound effect,

Perhaps a sound that gets louder as their mike is turned down? Any of those works for me. Just letting them go is obviously not the answer and hosts are unable to stop them just by asking, so don't put hosts in that position.

They all want to be President (?) so they like to hear themselves talk.

There was a primary debate in either 2016 or 2020 that had a bell sound when their time was up. I remember it vividly because it sounded exactly like my doorbell and every time it dinged on the TV my cat freaked out.

The moderators ABSOLUTELY should have the ability to MUTE a candidate’s microphone at any point if the candidate is not following the agreed upon rules.

Bergum. What was he doing there?
Hutchinson. His time has passed.

Now on to the theoretical candidates

Christie. He’s having too much fun. Being given a platform to bash Trump and taking full advantage of it. His takes on Trump are spot on and would reverberate with 60+% of the general public. Just not enough of the Republican public to get the nomination. I’ve disliked him for years and I think his anti-Trump stance is just a way for him to try and stay relevant.

Scott. Very disappointed in him. Making ‘the Wall’ a major talking point is just stupid. The others railed against ‘open borders’ smoothly without ‘the Wall’. I don’t think he even gets a sniff if he wasn’t African American.

Haley. She did ok. I think she is able to basically straddle the fine line of saying Trump can’t win, while still not saying Trump is an idiot. I think it’s a plus for her that her hubby is actively deployed military. I hate the way her teeth look when she is talking.

Ramaswammy. Generally a nut case but at least he is clear and interesting. He had by far the best closing statement. I do think he wins the far right, the right, the center, or any Democrats. I’m not sure who would actually vote for him?

Pence. Did well I thought. No errors. But just too far right to win a general election.

DeSantis. He would have won a debate against Biden or any Democrat for that matter. His electoral record (easily winning re-election) and past military service and easy ‘anti-woke’ talking points are winners. But I agree with (most) posters here that he is not strong enough to emerge from Trump’s shadow. What’s with his ears?

I hope there are less ‘candidates’ for the next debate.

Another thought…. That stupid ‘pledge’ to support the candidate no matter who it is, is, well, stupid! If the candidate chosen needs a ‘pledge’ to be supported, what does that say about the candidate?

The fact that they had a pledge requirement is bad enough; the fact that they had to pledge to support a guy who is quad-dicted (though innocent until proven guilty) AND who could not be bothered to show up makes it even worse.

Some female politicians, (no names will I mention) voices get higher and shrill when they start trying to talk loud or over someone else. I don't think Her's does. Advantage Haley.

One of the only clips I’ve seen widely circulating today is Nikki body slamming VR (sorry, refuse to memorize his name) on foreign policy.

Your overhyping of DeSantis continues to be bizarre.

He’d beat any democrat in a debate? He’s a shrill weirdo with strange tics.

Isn’t he going to be debating Newsom?

I am looking forward to President Biden actually having to defend Bidenomics in a debate.

I get all the "economy is strong" responses but the issue is that middle and lower income families are not feeling that strength in their buying power.

It is easy to make it work in a speech in front of a friendly audience; not so easy in a debate.

I realize that the Republican candidate will have some explaining to do in any debate.

I look forward to those debates.
