https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2021/jul/22/joe-biden/biden-exaggerates-efficacy-covid-19-vaccines/

covers this 'exaggeration'

I tend to think that 'they' want to downplay the issue of breakthrough infections for fear of giving ammunition to the antivaxxers.

Biden screwed up and got rightly called out.

Evenbob's car example is an interesting counter to the CDC point that "Millions of people across the country have been vaccinated. As of July 12, more than 159 million people had been fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. With 48 states and territories reporting, there were 5,492 confirmed breakthrough cases of COVID-19 among them. Those cases included 5,189 hospitalizations and 1,063 deaths.

That data shows that among vaccinated people, approximately 0.0033% were hospitalized and 0.00067% died, said Cindy Prins, an epidemiologist at the University of Florida."

But in the EB car situation, we had a car load of people sat several hours with a coughing, infected, non vaccinated, probably non-masked person. A superspreader event if ever there was one.

Florida BREAKS record for COVID-19 hospitalizations.

10,207 people are currently hospitalized with COVID, surpassing the previous record of 10,170 in July 2020.

Could one of our FL members go to the Golden Corral and tell Ron DeSantis to start doing his job?

Do you want Democrats to be competitive in Florida, or not?

I see FL as a completely lost cause for the Dems. It’s a red state now.

Not if enough of the red ones die.

Besides, you also might want them gone just in case we ever go to National popular vote.

Un-interesting side note.
In the UK, our right wing* 'Conservative party' uses the colour blue and our left wing socialist 'Labour Party' identifies as red. Indeed, the communists of China and Russia adopt red, too.
Putin's United Russia party uses red white and blue. just as UK and USA as national colours.

*UK parties are, thankfully, both quite centrist.

I see Desantis is somewhat unpopular with the medical profession.

So... Florida is emerging as a covid epicentre? Didn't we have someone here pointing out that Florida was doing well, in spite of having a low mask mandate approach?

Anyone taking bets on Desantis being the next (and last) elected president?

On YouTube there is tape of 1980 and it is a sea of blue. The network used blue for the GOP that year. The red/blue thing started in 2000 when the networks probably by chance all used the same scheme and because Algore dragged the election out so it was on TV for weeks not just one night. By the 2002 midterms the terms red and blue states had stuck.

i would not be sad if a lot of people in Florida pass away from it. I will be moving there in the next few months and that would free up some properties and prices will go down. Go COVID.

Right now, a school here can still designate a forced dress code, but can't tell students to wear a mask.
