That's funny. I'm not too worried about the fate of the transportation department. When is the last time we had a major transportation fail by the head of that department? So much, that we had that person removed?

It does look like a fairly stable position without dramatic firings. Ronald Reagan is the only POTUS to have 3 secretaries of Transportation. I am not sure why Elizabeth Dole resigned. She may simply have felt that 4.6 years was enough time in the position. So far only one tenure has lasted longer.

  1. 2.0 years Alan S. Boyd ------ Lyndon B. Johnson
  2. 4.0 years John A. Volpe ------ Richard M. Nixon
  3. 2.0 years Claude S. Brinegar ------ Gerald R. Ford
  4. 1.9 years William T. Coleman, Jr.
  5. 2.5 years Brock Adams ------ Jimmy Carter
  6. 1.4 years Neil E. Goldschmidt
  7. 2.0 years Drew Lewis (presiding over the firing of the striking U.S. air traffic controllers in 1981.)------ Ronald Reagan
  8. 4.6 years Elizabeth H. Dole
  9. 1.1 years James H. Burnley IV
  10. 2.8 years Samuel K. Skinner (left to become 15th White House Chief of Staff)------ George H. W. Bush
  11. 0.9 years Andrew H. Card
  12. 4.1 years Federico Peña ------ Bill Clinton
  13. 3.9 years Rodney E. Slater
  14. 5.5 years Norman Y. Mineta (longest tenure as secretary of DOT. joined a public relations firm)------ George W. Bush
  15. 2.3 years Mary E. Peters
  16. 4.4 years Ray H. LaHood ------ Barack Obama
  17. 3.6 years Anthony R. Foxx
  18. 3.9 years Elaine Chao ------ Donald Trump
  19. Pete Buttigieg

It is possible that Joe Biden's plans for Electric Vehicles may make the Secretary of the DOT a much more important position than it has been in the past.

Biden campagin promise:
There are now one million electric vehicles on the road in the United States. But a key barrier to further deployment of these greenhouse-gas reducing vehicles is the lack of charging stations and coordination across all levels of government. As President, Biden will work with our nation’s governors and mayors to support the deployment of more than 500,000 new public charging outlets by the end of 2030. In addition, Biden will restore the full electric vehicle tax credit to incentivize the purchase of these vehicles.

I wonder if I will see the day when certain cities are connected by high tech highways where the occupants can sleep in horizontal beds while self driving cars recharge along the route.

Living near one of these highways may be more important than living near one of the 30 large airports that carry 71% of the air traffic of the country.
  1. ATL 53,505,795 GA (5.72% of traffic)
  2. LAX 42,939,104 CA

It would be the answer in CA where they do not even have "rush hour" anymore in many places because the road is jammed 24/7.
The President is a fink.

The 7 state Northwest Mountain FAA district is dominated by 4 airports which carry 86% of traffic in the region. There are no MEDIUM size airports in the region. Just LARGE and SMALL.
DEN Denver
SEA Seattle
SLC Salt Lake City
PDX Portland

Northwest Mountain Region Airports Division
Colorado.
Washington.
Utah.
Oregon.

Idaho.
Montana.
Wyoming.

Supposedly the turnout in first 3 days of early voting in the Georgia runoff is higher than it was in the general election.

Biden picks Merrick Garland as his AG.

This will open up Merrick’s seat on the DC Circuit, which Biden/Senate Dems now get to fill. 😎

I'm happy for Garland. I wonder if Biden picks him for a SC position if one opens up during the next 4 years?

He’s 68, so no.

Biden has already promised to put a black woman on the SC.
