Who was Romney's VP in 12? Or Dukakis, or Ford's, who was VP under Carter or Lyndon Johnson? It's never been important and isn't important now. Can anybody name Kerry's VP in 04 without looking it up? Hell no.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

John Edwards! Didn’t need to look it up. Maybe we dodged a bullet with that one... “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

I don’t know. You’re definitely correct so far in what has been borne out statistically, but I think it’s theoretically possible to throw enough votes the other way, or turnout, in a (home) swing state to make a difference. Ryan, Bentsen, I’ll give you the Ford one. Wouldn’t know Ford’s without looking. Mondale, Humphrey. Knew those two off the top of my head. Edwards, wasn’t it? In fairness, Edwards is a guess, but I do remember them thinking he might win. So....I don’t have a dang clue on Ford and Edwards is a guess I’m about 75% confident in. Bob is generally correct that the VP choice is not that important. But I disagree that it is of NO importance. If she adds just 10,000 African-American female votes in Florida, from women who would have been disinterested and stayed home, that now are excited to vote, that could be enough to swing the state from Red to Blue. i do think McCain lost votes with his Palin selection, but still would have lost with any other VP selection. |

Obviously it's only important if you pick a controversial one, like Sarah Palin. Other than that, nobody gives a rip. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I’ve got a ten page thread that says more than zero people give a rip, unless this post brings it up to 11. "War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen..let us give them all they want." William T. Sherman |

Not in the voting booth they don't. Nobody at an exit poll has ever said they voted because they liked the VP pick. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
