-on Mar 1, 2020 the ban on single use plastic shopping bags goes into effect in NY. Shoppers in NY start using reusable shopping bags.

-on March 1,2010 the first case of COVID-19 in New York was conformed

-as of March 26, 2020 NY has over 37,000 cases of COVID-19

Did the desire to be environment friendly in NY facilitate the spread of the virus?

The Spread of a Norovirus Surrogate via Reusable Grocery Bags in a Grocery Supermarket

Dear lord this is one of the weakest arguments I’ve ever seen.

The stores in BC banned the use of reusable bags a week ago because of the crisis. Presumably they think they are a danger.

Yes, they have done the same here.

But suggesting a correlation between NYC’s new law going into effect March 1 and their higher rate of infection compared to the rest of the country is just silly.

I believe I just heard Dr Fauci say he expects to know some results from some of the trial drugs in a month or two.

The big difference is in the measures that each country took. As I understand it, South Korea did not shut everything down and close a huge swath of businesses. They were able to remain much closer to normal as opposed to the total lockdown we are under here without widespread testing and tracing. So similar results in the deaths per million, without the same economic devastation.
Probably had to import temporary workers but had 'temperature checkers' at store entrances and at critical pedestrian choke points.

Decided to look what happened during the Great Depression.

Quote:
he Great Depression of the 1930s was the most important economic downturn in the U.S. in the twentieth century. We used historical life expectancy and mortality data to examine associations of economic growth with population health for the period 1920–1940. We conducted descriptive analyses of trends and examined associations between annual changes in health indicators and annual changes in economic activity using correlations and regression models. Population health did not decline and indeed generally improved during the 4 years of the Great Depression, 1930–1933, with mortality decreasing for almost all ages, and life expectancy increasing by several years in males, females, whites, and nonwhites. For most age groups, mortality tended to peak during years of strong economic expansion (such as 1923, 1926, 1929, and 1936–1937). In contrast, the recessions of 1921, 1930–1933, and 1938 coincided with declines in mortality and gains in life expectancy. The only exception was suicide mortality which increased during the Great Depression, but accounted for less than 2% of deaths. Correlation and regression analyses confirmed a significant negative effect of economic expansions on health gains. The evolution of population health during the years 1920–1940 confirms the counterintuitive hypothesis that, as in other historical periods and market economies, population health tends to evolve better during recessions than in expansions.

Nowhere in my post did I make any "correlation between NYC’s new law going into effect March 1 and their higher rate of infection compared to the rest of the country ....", so your comment is "just silly".

In 2009, the Swine Flu, infected 61 million Americans, hospitalized 274,000 and killed 13,000. It infected 1.4 billion people worldwide and killed between 152,000-575,000.

It primarily affected children and young adults. 80% of the deaths were in people younger than 65.

There is still no vaccine for it.

Nonsense. Of course there's a vaccine for swine flu. If your doctor hasn't given you one, find a new doctor.

In the United States, 46 million people were vaccinated for swine flu by November 20, 2009.

That is because it didn’t have a press agent like this one does.

Don't blame the media for coronavirus. France, Italy, Spain, England, Israel, Japan, South Korea, India, and many many other nations have shut down all of their restaurants, bars, sports games, concerts, amusement parks, most of their economies. Is that because of hype from MSNBC and CNN? Or is the international news media just as sensationalistic as the US media outlets?

Koreans and Italians were dying of coronavirus long before New York City's March 1 law.

Yes. They each deal with self proclaimed experts, controlled source information, poorly defined terminology, etc.

Also, last week, Putin said no epidemic. This week Moscow business is shutting down.
