Biden ends COVID national emergency after Congress acts

So, as far as the feds are concerned the china virus emergency is pretty much over. To be fair it was set to expire in a few weeks so this is more logistics. More telling is Biden was not happy about it even with a veto-proof majority in the Senate. Most of us moved on by mid 2021 so it really is past due. It is a good time for reflection.

Biden only signing it under pressure shows how addicting this kind of things is to any leader. President Trump took the threat serious even if the threat turned out to be far less serious than it was. Same as 9/11, though, good intentions can lead bad places. Many bad things happened.

Student loans are still on hold even during record low unemployment. Smart grads used the time to either make more principal payments or invest and get interest to pay back more. But too many are now whining about how "unfair" it is for them to actually have to make payments again. SCOTUS hears a major case on this soon. Longer term, more and more folks are skipping college. The whole thing has been just one part of showing the "everyone should go to college" thing to be a scam.

Some people are still wearing masks. Some people bought into the mask thing from the start. Others of us saw them as as useless as trying to use a chain link fence to keep flies out of the yard. We were told how everyone loved wearing them, but when alone most people took them off the second they could. I had a few medical procedures where I had to wear one and told them that I remembered when the doctors wore the masks not the patients. Most appreciated the joke. The USA might be more like East Asia now with people just deciding to wear them in public. Have at it.

We got to see how some people think compliance is a virtue but also how the same people will rationalize anything. People saying how they liked everything being behind plexiglass one of the better examples. Or that all of the sudden they did not want to touch the "dirty cheques everyone was touching" at casino tables. What was normal in January of 2020 was now the end of the world.

The whole thing was much a lesson. If you ever wondered how fascism and communism took hold in the 1930s well you just lived thru it. Remember the woman in Buffalo who called the cops because business owners in a local strip mall were having a meeting "not wearing masks?" It went viral. Not bothering anyone, but she calls the cops! That kind of thing should scare a normal person to death. What is just as scary is it does not concern the average person when it happens.

We did get lucky as other places handled things much worse. China even spot-welded people's doors closed to lock them in. I did read how Americans were the least compliant in the world to the lockdowns, so all it not bad.

Just had cataract surgery on Monday the whole place was mask mandatory.
Everybody is forced to wear a mask the whole time they're there even though
been proven over and over they are useless. Ran into my first real encounter
with wokeness maybe I'll post about it later. Pretty funny, Let's just say I ended
up not being very popular there. LOL You may find this hard to believe but you
don't want to screw with me in person because you will always lose.

The vaccine technology America learned about during the pandemic was originally aimed at cancer, but its use against infectious diseases took off in the pandemic. Now a new study suggests specially designed mRNA shots can help prevent recurrences of melanoma.

The study, presented Sunday at a research conference, showed that after nearly two years, patients who received a personalized mRNA vaccine made by Moderna and Merck were 44% more likely to be alive and avoid new tumors than those who received only the standard of care.

If the results hold up in a larger, longer study planned to start later this year, it will mark a dramatic turnaround for cancer vaccines, which have been tested and failed for decades.

"It's probably the first real data that suggests that this personalized approach to vaccination may be worth exploring further," said Dr. Ryan Sullivan, an oncologist at Mass General Cancer Center, who was a co-author on the study.

Instead of using a vaccine to try to prevent or shrink a tumor, the new mRNA vaccines are aimed at reducing the chances of a high-risk cancer recurring.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo personally altered a state-driven study about Covid-19 vaccines last year to suggest that some doses pose a significantly higher health risk for young men than had been established by the broader medical community, according to a newly obtained document.

Ladapo's changes, released as part of a public records request, presented the risks of cardiac death to be more severe than previous versions of the study. He later used the final document in October to bolster disputed claims that Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines were dangerous to young men

This should be a huge scandal.

But all the people who believed him have moved on. Now they are busy obsessing over children’s genitals.

‘COVID Was a Scam’: Ventilator-Acquired Pneumonia Killed Millions – Bombshell Study

A new study by researchers at Northwestern University in Illinois has confirmed that the millions of deaths in the early days of the pandemic were caused by ventilators, which gave patients ventilator-acquired pneumonia. The virus itself was harmless.

Abstract

Background: Despite guidelines promoting the prevention and aggressive treatment of ventilator-associated
pneumonia (VAP), the importance of VAP as a driver of outcomes in mechanically ventilated patients, including
patients with severe COVID-19, remains unclear.  We aimed to determine the contribution of unsuccessful
treatment of VAP to mortality in patients with severe pneumonia.

Some people may be about to get in trouble for native origin claim of coronavirus. I'm fine with it either way. There was no one around to claim with certainty where it originated from, and still isn't. At least so far.
