Ever watch TV commercials? Count how many
are selling big pharm drugs. It's HUGE. A lot
of the time they don't even tell you what
the drug is for, they want to make you so
paranoid you ask your doctor. 20 years
ago you never saw a single commercial
for a prescription drug. Now it's all you see.

I doubt one of the big name companies could survive the backlash once discovered they were manipulating drug results. World wide pandemic is too big an issue.

It would probably bankrupt them.

Some small companies might risk it.

Huh?? When did they ever stop?
Is there an adult in this country
that doesn't believe big pharm is
corrupt as hell?
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Not what I said. I said, I don't think a big company could survive the high profile attention it would get during a world wide pandemic if they get caught manipulating the results. The public backlash, lawsuits, would sink them into non-existence.

Maybe a small drug company would risk it. Big companies would be stupid to take such a risk, losing a lot more than they would ever gain.

Not going to argue about how 'corrupt' big pharma is, but I will state as a fact that the profit motive of big pharma has resulted in the huge advances in modern medicine that have vastly improved the lives of the average Joe, as well as his life expectancy. Just in my field, i can tell you how much better Propofol is than pentothal, Versed is than valium, Rocuronium is than Pancuronium, Zofran is than Reglan, Sevoflurane is than halothane, suggamadex is than neostigmine, ropivicaine is than bupivicaine, wow...... that's just off the top of my head and just for anesthesia drugs comparing 1990 to 2020!

So you can call big pharma corrupt if it makes you feel good, but big pharma is one of the greatest success stories in the history of mankind.

As far as dexamethasone, I have given it likely around 10,000 times. It is a non-specific anti-inflammatory drug that does not affect platelets like aspirin. Certain surgical procedures (Oral maxillofacial as an example) the surgeon will request it for every patient. Some use it in anesthesia as it lessens the chance of nausea after general anesthesia. Not uncommon for asthmatics to be on it for short stints. And severe COPD patients sometimes on it for long periods. It has side effects... retaining fluid, wounds might not heal as well, rarely something called avascular necrosis, mild 'steroid psychosis'. Sounds like in COVID-19 the benefits outweigh the risks.

Many great breakthrus, but it is a business like any other. I am 50 and am on 2 meds for life and have been for years. That they will try to push the new drug instead of off-label use of a current drug is no stretch. Then there is the FDA who is deep-state enough that I would not put it past them to say "no" just because Trump touted field success.

This is the world we are in.
The President is a fink.

So was Standard Oil. You're not
making the point you think you
are. John Rockefeller made
kerosene available to the world
by being the most corrupt
businessman in history. He
was also the richest. In today's
money he would be worth almost
half a trillion dollars.

He had 90% of the industry. Unlike any of the successful pharma companies.

Dr Foocho-Woochi now admits he lied
thru his false teeth that masks were a
waste of time. He was afraid there would
be a run on them and medical people
would be shorted. So he put the public
health at risk instead. The Surgeon
General did the same. Fricking jerks.

Why, what were we going to do when all the health providers were sick without masks? Talk about a disaster. They did a public service. He should be thanked.
