Anti-vaccination proponents in the US still live in a country that has benefited from past successes of positive vaccination so it's often too easy for them to see vaccination protocols as worthless dreck that doesn't affect anyone.

Fortunately this is one thing where the wake-up call can occur rather fast. But that's a lousy way to learn something you should already know.
