Census Bureau has migration at 82% of population growth by the year 2050, Mexico will be emigrating 81.5% of it's natural growth out of the country.

I find it very interesting how increased wealth lowers birth rate. One would think the opposite would be true. Kids are expensive. Logically the lower classes would have fewer kids due to cost. One would think a poorer country would be depressed and not want as many kids. That was the case in FSU 20 years ago.

It makes me wonder what percent of people really want and enjoy having kids? Even about 2000 when I was with people my age and said I did not want kids I got looks. People could not grasp it. Now the birthrate is below replacement level, indicating more people are agreeing with me.

Clearly many people enjoy kids and family life. But what if that is a distinct minority? Either those women need to start having 3-4 kids each or we are in real decline.

That may well be a window.

When those kids get to be teens, their likeability can change, or it could be a phase the parents go through ?

Just like marriage or sex, men and women view kids differently, or like them for different reasons.

I've seen many females that only wanted a child, until they had one, or wanted it for the power it gave them.

Also, I think you can love a child, and not like them.

I maintain that most women want kids, most men do not.

Most women do not understand that most men do not want kids.

I see all the effort some couples go thru to have kids and just do not grasp it.

I cannot at all understand these women who go to the sperm banks. Not. One. Bit.

A friend of my daughters who was a lesbian got married, and they got a donor. Later the spouse divorced her but the court wouldn't demand any child support because the spouse didn't donate to procreating.

Now the mother raises the child alone without any assistance and has found out she isn't a lesbian.

For most of this country's history, 90% of the population
lived on farms. In order to survive, you had to have a
large family to work the farm. There was no retirement
benefits, no social security, you needed kids so they would
take care of you in your old age.

My dad lived on such a farm
in the early part of the 20th century. They were lucky, there
were five strong boys, five brothers to do all the chores.
They all graduated high school in the 30's during the
Depression, and they all joined the Navy. After World
War II none of them went back to the farm.

Large families have always been more about taking care
of you in the future then they have been about companionship.
I know it was that way in Europe, large families meant
wealth stability even in the lower classes. One of you
might not have much, but as a large family you had security
and could get along.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

If you were lucky, maybe one or two would stick around and help.

The 20th century changed everything for farming.
On my dad's farm they used draft horses when he
was a kid. When they finally got a tractor, and some
harvesting equipment, there was no need for so many
people to be working the farm. That's why none of
the brothers went home. But in the past, before the
20th century, they stayed on or around the farm
because there was no other place to go.

Also there was only enough land to support x amount of people. Five brothers bring home 5 wives and start having kids, you need more land.

Off to Deadwood or the Klondike.
