I still have Xfinity with 9000 channels.
Tonight I'm watching Get Shorty on
a channel I never even heard of,
120 Elray. I like Xfinity because
of On Demand.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Just ran out to the store and bought a roku. Wanted to get fire stick but stores nearby are out of them. Hopefully for all we do it will be fine.

This chart will help you determine what features are in the 4 different price models

If you have poor wifi, get an ultra so you can run a CAT-5E wire to your router.

Sling will give you a free Roku Express ($30) if you sign up for at least two months at the minimum price ($25) or more.

The roku that I bought had a coupon inside for $35 off sling when you pre pay for 2 months. Basically the same deal but didnt have to wait for shipping.

I wish that I would have gotten 1 sooner. I didnt know there were apps on it. One of them has like 5000 free movies.

Roku launched its own free streaming channel on its devices in October 2017 (ad-supported). Its' licensed content includes movies and TV shows from studios such as Lionsgate, MGM, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Warner Bros.

In 1972 the concept was that if you watched TV for free via antenna you "paid" for it by having commercials. CATV or Community Antenna Television was for people who couldn't get good reception with personal antennas. If you paid for the channel, it was HBO (Launched November 8, 1972) and you were entitled to watch commercial free.

Gradually that system broke down, and now you pay huge fees to watch TV Land where they pepper you with commercials.

Careful use of the Roku let;s you go back to that concept where video is free if you watch commercials, and if you pay a fee you can watch commercial free.

But sports are another matter. You end up paying for a streaming service. That's why Sling has those $25 options which are the cheapest way to get sports.

Disney reports 3rd quarter 2018
Cable Networks revenue $4.188B, operating income $1.383B or 33%
Broadcasting revenue $1.968B, operating income $0.361B or 18%

Cable is much more profitable than broadcast, because Disney is paid the following affiliate fees + advertising revenue:
Affiliate fees, Per subscriber, per month for 2017
$7.54 ESPN
$1.55 Disney Channel
$0.94 ESPN2
$0.74 SEC Network
$0.33 Freeform
$0.29 ESPNews
$0.25 ESPNU
$0.22 Disney XD
$0.19 Disney Junior
-------
$12.05

The cable division collects much more revenue than broadcasting because it is coming from both affiliate fees and advertising. Broadcasting makes most of it's money from advertising.
