Presidents John Tyler and Andrew Johnson faced constant threats of impeachment largely because they were remarkably unpopular. The House tried but failed three times to impeach Tyler for having done nothing more than protect the president's authorities to veto legislation and nominate officials. Even though Johnson came within a single vote of being convicted in the Senate, most historians have dismissed his impeachment as driven more by partisanship than a proper basis for impeachment and removal. In the unlikely event that Democrats capture the House in 2018, they may not need a reason. |

It could be true, of course...but mostly it is more of the "officials said" stuff the Post is using everyday. I would not be surprised if they look into everyone to see if any obstruction occurred; isn't that kind of the idea? Of course, Mueller's probe does not start or stop at Trump...there are people on both sides that could have issues. |

That's what I thought when I first heard about it - that releasing that information was intended to make it more difficult to fire the guy. They very well may have kept it under wraps if the rumors about Trump firing him didn't come out. Someone mentioned that theory on an interview today, too. That someone is being investigated means very little unless evidence of an actual illegal action is found. Trump being "under investigation"does not prove anything. I thought we long ago decided that there actually had to be something done that was wrong for being investigated to matter. Once an allegation, indictment, article of impeachment, etc. comes out, then it means something...but even then, it still unproven until it goes to court or Congress. Innocent until proven guilty. Not guilty because the media says so or someone leaks that they think he may be guilty...when an anonymous person leaks something, you have to look at their motivation for doing so. The media is playing games by trying to make the story whatever they want it to be. We're being played. The media wants to try this in the court of public opinion, not in the Congress. |
