La La Land is basically a lock for Best Picture & Best Director.

Best Actor will probably go to Casey Affleck.

Best Actress is a big question mark. Amy Adams wasn't even nominated for Arrival. Odd. I have no idea who will win, at this point. The SAG awards this weekend should clarify who the frontrunner is.

Best Supporting Actor will probably go to the guy from Moonlight.

Best Supporting Actress will go to Viola Davis (she's overdue for an Oscar...).

I think it's the first time in decades I've seen a best picture nominee.

Though I didn't think Arrival was that good.

Do you think there were films or actors left off the list because of the Academy's attempt to institute affirmative action nominations/awards?

Ruth Negga for Best Actress is the only one that seems questionable to me. All the other non-white actors who were nominated have earned their place in the awards conversation.

I think the best part of Arrival didn't get nominated. I can't compare to the other films mind. I liked Arrival until the final act, which was horribly executed.

Bet365 agrees with your assessment.
Mahershala Ali - Moonlight
Viola Davis - Fences

Bet 365 has La La Land for BP and BD. Odds for Best Picture are overwhelming
La La Land 1/6
Moonlight 9/2
Manchester By The Sea 12
Hidden Figures 33
Hacksaw Ridge 66
Fences 80
Lion 80
Hell or High Water 100
Arrival 100

Casey Affleck is front runner for Best Actor

Right now Emma leads for Best Actress
Emma Stone - La La Land 8/11
Natalie Portman - Jackie 7/4
Isabelle Huppert - Elle 11/2
Ruth Negga - Loving 33
Meryl Streep - Florence Foster Jenkins 33

I agree. But an Oscar for Best Trailer would be going too far with the golden statuettes.

It pretty much went downhill at superluminal speed when Dr. Banks reported what Abbott and Costello said in regards to the question "Why did you come here?"

The SAG awards certainly threw a wrench into the Best Actor race. Denzel won over Casey Affleck. Casey has some skeletons in his closet, and a lot of people in Hollywood don't think he deserves any award.

Emma Stone has emerged as the frontrunner for Best Actress. I like Emma a lot. Her performance in La La Land is good. But best of the year? No.

I saw Lion today, so I can say I did see one BP nomination. It was a real tear-jerker, but not incredible as movie making craft. It won't win a major award.
