Many investigations are non-stories until evidence is developed of some wrongdoing. Sometimes the evidence precedes the investigation but it does not seem to be so in this case, based on the statements of the two lawmakers on the issue. I don't think there is much to report beyond saying that they are investigating (which they should report, but not in a manner to implying anything has been found until, well, something is found) and then reporting on developments.

Right now it seems that they are more anxious to keep the story in the news than to actually report anything new. At least for now, it is pretty much a non-story.
