He sure seems like an awful king at least according to the scant historical documents surrounding his life and the horrible tortures he inflicted on innocent people. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Sorry to poison your mind with the truth. How can you not know any of this. What your Church did to forcibly convert pagans. I learned about it in a public High School in the 60's. You want to see real hatred of the Church, get to know practicing pagan Wiccans like I did 20 years ago. They think your Church is evil incarnate and your god is the real Satan, if there was such a thing. There is something very nice about goddess worship, none of the ugliness and melodrama the Church vomits out. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

A long time ago I quoted an article written by a Wiccan priestess talking about what an exaggerated myth it is that Christians killed so many thousands of witches or pagans. This is popular mythology of today such as exaggerating the Inquisition and such. If you want to look at persecution happening right here and now look no further than the killing of Christians in this last century. More Christians have been martyred in these recent years than at the time of Nero. Yes, anyone killed for their religious beliefs or lack of it is a heinous crime. I wonder why your Wiccan friends demonize the Church when right now Christians themselves are being killed and driven from their homes in record numbers. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

It's a fact they exaggerate. That the Church killed just one is enough. In a murder trial you can't have the defense that a mass murderer killed dozens of people and you only killed one, so you should be treated leniently. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

What do you think the Church is? It's the people who run it now and used to run it for hundreds and hundreds of years. Can't blame god, he doesn't exist. It would be nice if every generation could just wash their hands of the past and say, oh well. Doesn't work that way. Blacks and Native Americans want reparations from the entity that wronged them. How does the Church get off that hook. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

| FrGamble Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 67 Posts: 7596 | It is an interesting question. Do you think there reparations fro slavery and for what the government did to Native Americans? I wonder how that would work and if it is justice or not. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

The point is, they think they deserve it, they don't buy your 'it's all in the past, lets just forget it' excuse for crimes against human rights. You never forget and you never forgive. You just make sure they can never do it again. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I'm all for making sure bad people can never do the crimes they committed. I also am very much for forgiveness. Is there a way we can do both so you don't foolishly judge a whole group of people for crimes committed in the past? “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

The Church never voluntarily stopped doing anything on it's own. It was was always forced to stop by the weight of opinion against it. The pedophile scandal is a good example. The Church didn't deal with it, they just sent the offenders from parish to parish, made them say a few Hail Mary's, and all was good. Who gives a damn about the kids, just lift the rug and sweep sweep sweep. It took the breaking of the story in the press to force the Church to finally take action. That's their MO. Get away with having it their way until they can't get away with it anymore. There is not a doubt in my mind the Church would still be executing heretics today if they could. Crossing themselves like mad, waving incense around, twisting their rosaries, saying we love you, we love you, as a trap door drops on the gallows. That's how twisted they are and always have been about how much authority they have. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
