I think it's insulting to say any ethnic group would disregard someones stand on issues and policy and vote for them on the basis of their ethnic background alone.

Sorry to break it to you, but it is human nature and it happens all the time all over the world.

Do you mean it's human nature to insult people or to vote for someone because they look, speak or eat like you? People do want to hang with their own kind but to say they vote solely on that basis is wrong. If that were true a how could Barack Hussein Obama ever get elected? I realize He's only half African decent but most people don't seem to know that.

I'm saying look how many blacks were fired up because he is black. Look at how many women want to vote for Hillary because she is a woman. Lots of Irish loved JFK because he was a mic.

As to insulting people that might be the case. Obama insults people regularly.

Fact is if Obama were not black he might very well still be some unknown Chicago politician.

What's wrong with that? I'm voting for who will most look out for me.

Hmm
I'm sure Clarence Thomas, Condi Rice, Ben Carson or Alan West would not agree.

Don't forget Mia Love, the U.S. Representative from Utah's 4th congressional district. She is the first Haitian American and the first black female Republican in Congress, as well as the first African American to be elected to Congress from Utah.

But you are talking about individuals here. It is not really stereotyping to talk about demographic groups and voting trends. According to exit polls 93% of African-Americans, 71% of Latinos and 73% of Asians supported Obama over Romney.

I think Nareed's point is a good one. You don't really have to worry about the ethnic vote to win the election. The Election will be decided in about 10 states, which have a higher percentage of white, not Latino percentage than the country as a whole.

Race and Hispanic Origin
White alone, not Hispanic or Latino, percent, July 1, 2015
92.3% New Hampshire
88.7% Iowa
83.3% Wisconsin
81.1% Ohio
79.5% Pennsylvania
70.0% Colorado
65.3% North Carolina
64.8% Virginia
63.7% ------ UNITED STATES
55.3% Florida
54.1% Nevada

I think in general the importance of racial and ethnic demography in Presidential politics can be over stressed. The most diverse states in the union lean Democrat, but are by no means uniform. Likewise the states with the highest percentage of White, Non Latinos are hard core Democrat.

White alone, not Hispanic or Latino, percent, 2010
22.9%  Hawaii - DEMOCRAT
27.8%  District of Columbia - DEMOCRAT
44.7%  New Mexico - SWING
46.7%  California - DEMOCRAT
52.4%  Texas- REPUBLICAN
60.7%  Mississippi- REPUBLICAN
62.0%  New York - DEMOCRAT
...
95.1%  New Hampshire- SWING
96.2%  Vermont - DEMOCRAT
96.5%  Maine - DEMOCRAT

Why? Isn't that what a rational person does?

Yes... everyone does think their choices are mostly rational... it's just other people's choices that aren't.

Of course, the rhetoric is often that people should vote what's 'Best for America' (or other country in other elections)....
