My entertainment has been righties like you desperately pretending that Trump made a good deal. Facts are not EvenBob's friend: - Jobs saved from going to Mexico: 800 - Jobs still going to Mexico: 1,300 - Cost to Indiana taxpayers: $7M If Obama made this deal the faux outrage from these same righties would be off the charts. “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

| TheCesspit Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 23 Posts: 1929 | Lets see what lefty Jimmy Pethokoukis says: The idea that American corporations are going to have to make business decisions, not based on the fact that we've created an ideal environment for economic growth in the United States, but out of fear of punitive actions based on who knows what criteria exactly from a presidential administration. I think that's absolutely chilling," he said in an interview with CNBC's "Closing Bell." (head of a right leaning economic research group). Hopefully no-one got drown in that spittle. What about a lefty liberal analyst: "Still, he confessed a grudging admiration for Mr. Trump's political jujitsu. "If I weren't so scared of the damage a Trump administration might do, I'd find it refreshing to see an administration fighting for factory jobs like this" he said. "That said, no one should confuse what Trump is doing here with sustainable economic policy." Bernie didn't like it, mind: "He has signaled to every corporation in America that they can threaten to offshore jobs in exchange for business-friendly tax benefits and incentives" Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont wrote in an op-ed on Thursday for The Washington Post." Sorry, should have warned you to don your raincoats in that implosion. And note: 1,100 jobs have been saved, but 1,000 at Carrier are still being off shored. Hopefully tax dollars well spent. $8,750 per job. Awesome. Glad someone outside of the 47% is getting a hand out. There will be some useful economic multipliers in this, that may at least make it less of an overall cost... the employment of 800 people (or 1100 read) will keep others employed as well, and keep the wheels greased in the city with the plant in. Wouldn't ever call a tax incentive a handout but assuming your figure is correct it is an awesome deal. Unemployment compensation alone would be more for the people involved. And it only took 7 million dollars stolen from Indiana taxpayers without their consent to do it! I can see why you approve. |

Where was $7 million stolen? Actually IN is just not stealing the money from Carrier! War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

Ah, but the message that a Trump administration doesn't understand business can be priced. Carrier will have to charge more for its products if they're domestically sourced. That means less money in the pockets of, and lower profits for, those businesses that buy their products. In turn, the customers of those businesses will pay more, etc. etc. Its simply what happens when you ignore the Law of Comparative Advantage. Manufacturing should occur where costs are lowest. If you stop that from happening, there will be a price to pay. In this case, first Indiana taxpayers, then Carrier customers, then Carrier itself as they slowly go out of business due to being less competitive. |

The taxes that Indianans pay will now be used to prop up a failing company instead of what those taxes were originally supposed to do. And that's completely without consulting the taxpayers/voters. That's simple theft. |

You have a calculator on your machine. You can show it's correct quite easily. One man's tax break is another man's hand out. Collecting less tax from an entity is much the same as a rebate to another. Assuming Carrier pays taxes. I suspect it does, as it seems rather keen on lowering the corporate tax rate... as US companies should be, the high rate of corporation tax in the US does stifle growth. The problem will be if other's come back and want $8,000/head to save jobs/make jobs. There's around 12 million manufacturing jobs in the US right now (up from 2010 by 8% or 700,000 jobs). Would cost $5.6 Billion to save those 700,000 jobs if there's a new move off (or a threat to move off the US soil). That's the danger, federal policy being dictated by special cases. After all, we wouldn't want a president controlled by special interest groups. It's a single example. More telling is the overall trends, right? No point getting in a lather about it. That concern is not misplaced. Threaten to move offshore and the Republican governor will bake you a nice cake with millions of dollars inside. It's been the same ever since the Republicans crawled into bed with Big Business and started to fellate it. We might think our tax money is going to support government institutions, pay for national defense, provide for entitlement programs, etc. but it's really going to go to bribe corporations and (not incidentally) buy votes. Yay Republicans! Good thing we blew up the Establishment when we elected the Orange Orangutan! |
