Yes, I am being intolerant. Why should we tolerate what happened? Why should I tolerate his views?

There are people out there preaching hate and intolerance in the name of their religion. Why would you expect me to accept that?

Yes, I am intolerant of those views, because those views led to those actions.

There are a lot of people out there preaching hate and intolerance that are not part of any religion. I'm saying that there are no Churches outside of Westboro that this weekend are preaching anything but love, tolerance, and non-violence. I imagine there are also very few if any above ground mosques that are preaching anything other than love and tolerance as well. I join you in not tolerating views of hate and intolerance and I would join you in the fight to stop people from preaching these things. You must realize though that you will not find this happening in Churches and in other religions. To fight against these things we have to look at those who are not healthy mentally or spiritually, those who skip or ignore the message at Church and tell the racist or homophobic jokes that go unchallenged at the workplace, those in our families who we have let hateful speech slide by for too long. These are the views that led to actions of hate and violence.

There is no gay or straight, no immigrant or citizen, no black or white, sick or healthy, born or unborn, rich or poor, we are all one in Christ Jesus.

I'm sure if I call you a hypocrite I'll get suspended again. Just the same, how can you with a straight face say "there is no gay or straight," when you've been arguing here for months that gay people should not engage in sexual relations, be allowed to marry, and shouldn't adopt children?

You know what's hateful and intolerant? Mistreating people and every turn, and then telling them how much you care about them.

So we're 'saved' if we don't accept Jesus as
the son of god? That's not a condition of the
'free' gift? Really?

That is the name of the library, "Jesus Christ is the Son of God Free Library - All are welcome!" You can still come in even if you don't accept that truth, what you learn will still save you from the zombies and more than likely you will recognize the truth eventually, no pressure though.

What you'll learn is all the conditions
attached to the 'free' gift. Why even
call it a gift. You end up paying for
it with your loyalty and allegiance to
the religion. It's not a gift at all, it's
something you pay dearly for every
day. And you're getting nothing, that's
the sweet part. The Church has flummoxed
you completely.

I believe that the sexual actions of homosexuals are against nature and not healthy. I know you disagree with that, but I hope you can at least see that if I do strongly believe that then it is not being hateful or intolerant, but rather the opposite in my own "twisted or seemingly hypocritical way". I also am all for men and women to be the closest of friends and lifetime companions. I believe in extending all the legal rights of marriage to those who commit themselves to these lifelong friendships. However, two men or two women cannot get married because that is a very different relationship than the natural and healthy friendship of same sex couples. I also believe in the power of forgiveness and God's compassion and understanding for those with same sex attraction and I view the sexual relations of homosexuals as no more heinous than the sexual relations of unmarried heterosexuals. Finally, even though you keep saying it I do not say that same sex couples should not adopt children. I do recognize that you have very strong feelings about all these issues but I appreciate it if you continue to resist the urge to exaggerate, name call, or say things that are not true. I do hold the belief that a child does best when they have a mom and a dad.

Again, I recognize these views seem hateful and intolerant to you and that it is somehow mistreating people. However hard it is for you to see it I hope and pray you will recognize that the motivation is nothing other than a true and authentic love.

Because it is a gift and there are no conditions, can we be done now with this silly argument?

Dalex take a quick gander at the tone of these discussions and see if you can sense who is being hateful and intolerant?

Intolerance doesn't have to be a shouting Nazi, it's also the southern genteel manner of the old South treating the slaves as inferior in a charming voice. Being nice and saying you love people doesn't cover it up.

You are clearly intolerant in several ways. Get used to hearing it.

I don't think that guy has anything to do with westboro, and I also don't know what, if anything, he will be preaching this weekend. I have seen no stories covering the reaction of his congregation to his sermon.

Every group has its nutcases. The bigger problem is when the leader is a nutcase, or the whole group is swayed into doing something hateful.

Westboro baptist is an example, as are some neo-nazi groups and the kkk.
I think they all claim to be christian and claim to be following christian ideals.

And you do find it happening in churches and in other religions.
The jews are in a state of war with some of them. Some of those muslim groups hate the jews, hate us, and believe they have god on their side and are doing his will.

What are some non-religious hate groups? I'd be happy to denounce them, but I honestly can't think of any right now.

Because it is a gift and there are no conditions

Can you be saved without repenting your sins?
Can you not believe in Jesus and be saved?
Can you be saved without being baptized?

These are just just some of the conditions
attached to being saved, making it not
a gift at all. You are buying salvation with
your loyalty, your time, your belief, and
your prayers. And in the myth, Jesus paid
for your salvation anyway, so where is
any of this 'free'.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I have no idea what this even means.
That's not surprising.
