That is a great site and I'm sorry to say you might have been lying. It is just that this site and the Wikipedia site give a little different story than what I had heard. It looks like you are correct in that it is not explicitly even mentioned in the Papal Bull of Urban IV establishing the Feast of Corpus Christi. I guess the timing of the Feast with the legendary occurrence of the miracle put the two linked together when they may not have been. Thank you very much.

Are you denying that contraception has a major factor in the epidemic of pornography and infidelity throughout the world? Come on man.

That must mean priests would really be sexually abusive if celibacy wasn't staving off that corruption. Boggles the mind, how bad you guys would be then.

I don't follow your offensive remarks. Is there a logical statement or thought there or not?

We also already discussed how the catholic church was one of the last major organizations opposed to the womans right to vote, trailing most governments in the western world.

How effective is the lack of contraception in central africa?

Lots of catholics? Great respect for women and their rights?

Low birth rates and incidents of disease due to people practicing abstenance?

I think those practicing abstinence have very low birth rates and zero incidents of sexually transmitted diseases.

So, women have only been mistreated in the last one or two hundred years, when contraception increased markedly in effectiveness?

I know that over the same period there was also an increase, or the modern invention, of pornography.

We also know that correlation does not prove causation. Afterall, the automobile also came in to common use during this same period.

What seems kind of crazy to me is saying that there was contraception back in ancient Biblical times. How effective and widespread were these contraceptives?

'Birth control and abortion are well documented in Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. (See History of abortion.) The Ebers Papyrus from 1550 BCE and the Kahun Papyrus from 1850 BCE have within them some of the earliest documented descriptions of birth control.'

Condoms made of sheep intestines were also
used. Birth control was a common practice
in Jesus time, just one more thing, like slavery,
he forgot to condem.

What are the rates of catholics in central Africa practicing abstenance?

Probably no more so than Catholic priests.
Study after study shows that at any given
time 50% of priests are celibate. And it's
been that way for 50 years. But it's fluid,
the priests that are celibate this year
might not be the same ones as last
year. About 40% of the clergy is Gay,
but their rate is about 15%. Go figure.
