1) we can locate most spots on Gondwana, and Pangea, as they correspond to today's map. It's how we know the way the continents have been moving.

2) Gondwana formed over 500 million years ago (continents move very slooooooowly). This would mean Jehovah created two humans, and only two, then expelled them from his garden, then froze developments for millions and millions of years while the continents moved, then started them up again.

2.1) Gondwana existed a long, long time before mammals first evolved. The fossil record simply does not support humans having evolved before all other mammals.
I was speaking from a fundamentalist biblical viewpoint. The flood and recede would last about a year. The break up of the continents would happen pretty quick in that scenario.

Not unless the flood was of molten rock rather than water. And not even then.

Thomas Jefferson wrote a 27 page summary of the Bible's facts. He was not foolish enough to show it to anyone but I believe it was found among his papers.

What exactly do Christians mean by "salvation"?

Am I supposed to be saved from some kind of imminent peril?

Salvation is a free gift that God gives us that is received by faith in Jesus Christ. Yes it does save us from eternal death and Hell.

And what do they mean by "accepting Jesus as your personal savior? Is this like a personal shopper?
Will a man dead for 2,000+ years offer some kind of personalized assistance in this mysterious "salvation" business?

Accepting Jesus as your personal Savior is faith. It is our acceptance of this gift of salvation that Jesus offers us all. Jesus is very much alive and yes offers you personal assistance in this mysterious salvation business.

It's not really what I'm getting at.

However, a couple other thoughts occurred to me this morning. If people believe in Heaven why do any of them at all discount the Garden of Eden story? If you can believe in one fantastic place, why not the other? Perhaps it disagrees with some factual information on Earth, but I've not noticed that stopping many people from their claims.

At least in Catholicism you are not required to believe in an actual place of the Garden of Eden. It is a representation of what our ultimate destination is meant to be when like Adam and Eve we are in perfect communion with God, ourselves, and nature.

Anyway, I find it peculiar that Satan is allowed access to roam around the GOE. This is after God has begin to deal with him as reject. Yet the humans are banished from it the first time they screw up.

Remember that Satan is not a human being. Also God when giving us our freedom to choose what is right allows the tempter to offer us the chance to abuse our freedom and to be guided not by love or reason but by our base passions.

Sort of one of those "you won a zillion dollars in the lottery, but have to send us some money first".

ON EDIT: Only instead of money its 'acceptance via a belief' with much of what must be believed being clearly absurd. So accept concepts of Heavan and Hell and Satan and then accept safety from Hell and Satan and Brimstone. Meanwhile go to church, supply an alter boy or two, fund some baskets of cheer and sort of be vampired financially.

Asimov was so prolific. It's amazing what some people can accomplish, .

When writing a science book, Asimov said it
felt like the info was coming in over his
left shoulder and out his hands into the
Selectric. Of which he owned 4. One was
always broken, one was in the shop, that
was the rotation. He said it took him 5
times longer to write a book of fiction
than a book of science. At one time he
had over 200 books in print at the same
time, a record.

Let me reiterate that it is entirely a free gift.

A completely meaningless statement. And
once explained, it's even more meaningless.
In order to arrive at the needing salvation
point, you have to completely swallow
a whole bunch of preposterous nonsense.
Like you are so powerful that you can
actually offend a god with your actions.
Nothing narcissistic about that..

This would come as very big surprise to
the Jesus that died 2000 years ago.
The rumors of his exploits have been
greatly exaggerated.

Can you offend someone who loves and cares for you very much?

I don't know He did say, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." He also said, "He who believes in me will have eternal life."
