Don't you find this oppressive? I do. I see it like thoughtcrime in 1984, a means of thought control.
This looks to me to be exactly in reverse order.
But you're supposed to atone for sins, seek forgiveness, and stop sinning. This is very hard when the "sin" is good for your life, and it's not something you can stop doing.
The way I read it, God tells Job "Who are you to dare question me, you miserable worm?" My interpretation is that Jehovah is a cruel, sadistic SOB with a dominating personality and a massive inferiority complex. A bully, in other words. And never mind the attempt to put things right by giving Job a new family. what was his original family? Disposable? Is that how the Bible's god sees people? Like socks or shoes you can replace with new ones? Mind, this is not exclusive of Hebrew mythology. The Greeks were fond of the bullying gods, too. Ask Arachne or Sisyphus. And that matter of the Trojan war over vanity would have made Narcissus blush.
In principle I wouldn't mind if all Christian churches simply refused to admit LGBT people. In practice, this also is damaging socially in many places. Besides, if the alleged true word of God cannot make all Christians adopt the same religious practices as prescribed by the true word of God, good luck getting them to agree with a matter of policy. In practice, I'd be satisfied if Christian churches merely decided not to make gay bashing an all-encompassing essential aspect of their faith or practice. But see what I wrote above. In the end social pressures will leave them little choice.
I would find a psychiatrist ;)
Why should they? Those are all doing quite well these days and don't seem to require any additional help ;)
Ah, there's the false dichotomy. I had wondered how long it would take. I've said any number of times before, one cannot live "to the fullest" if one ignores morality and ethics. A healthy ego, one capable of self-esteem, does not need to be lived for, but is required for living well.
You meddle incessantly into people's lives and are more worried about two women kissing than about children being abused. You find ways to make bad matters worse, and delight in punishment over rehabilitation. See, two can play the false dichotomy game. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

As has many LGBT folks, in fact, in the USA, the climate against LGB by evangelicals is awful. Here in Canada it is much better. Sin is an verb. It can't exist because it's an action. Just like "run" doesn't exist. It's an action!!!! I have thought greatly about the "religious dogma" I'm stuck in and working on it everyday. Are you, or are you going to hang up your belief in reincarnation on a few University of Virginia studies that have been debunked. You have no problem debunking climate change with its 97% belief rate, but have no problem clinging to reincarnation with its 99+% disbelief rate. Illogical. |

That's the god of Jesus, in fact Jesus is Jehovah, or so they think. You can't read the OT and come away thinking Jehovah is anything other than a cruel sadist. Saying Yahweh is the god of love, which is the flasehood FrG is always pushing here, is a bad joke. One of my favorite stories is where some kids mock a guy for being bald, and the loving god sends bears to kill 42 of them. The OT is over loaded with their loving god at work, Jesus at work, actually. Aren't they one and the same? If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

They had no choice, the people would have walked if they hadn't. Even the big ritual of the wafer being the flesh of Jesus was completely stolen from the pagan religions. The idolatry goes without saying, pagan worship was totally about idolatry. If you were to take a modern, well educated person, who had never heard of the Catholic Church, and show him around and explain what the Catholics do, he would be dumbfounded. He would think it's a prank. I've known about it for decades and I still can't wrap my mind around a lot of it. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

FrGamble Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 67 Posts: 7596 | Excuse me if I chuckle a little bit at Evenbob's claims to know about Catholicism. Talk about a big prank, if you really did know about Catholicism and have been hiding it so well in your posts then the joke is on me and kudos to you sir. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Nice try. Since I made friends with the ex priest, I know a lot more than I did, from an insiders point of view. His take on it is, it's silly and outdated and a complete waste of time. You know who he is, ask him yourself. Now you'll say he knows nothing about it either, right? lol If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

rxwine Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 189 Posts: 18776 | I never really noticed Julie Bowen until Modern Family. She's 48, so her younger roles are already behind her. (I assume) You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really? |
