How about tolls and parking at TLC airport as an option?

That's hard to say. Tolls are about 150 pesos round trip, or around $8.50 US. I haven't parked at TLC in years. There's a daily rate that's cheaper than about ten hours at the hourly rate. That's common in airports for stays exceeding 24 hours. So it depends on your trip. At MEX, the daily rate is 225 pesos, or about $12.50 US.

For one person, the taxi and shuttle are cheaper than driving for a three-day trip, never mind the 2+ weeks I usually am away.

A Western airlines jet landed at a runway under repair at MEX, which was full of heavy machinery parked there for the night.

That is terrible but I still can't believe the Southwest plane that landed at the wrong airport a couple of years ago. That seems like it should be impossible with technology today.

A plane at Taipei took off, at the edge of a cyclone no less, from a runway under repair which was full of heavy machinery parked on it. One cause cited on the accident report, was that the inactive runway was illuminated.

I don't know the details of the Western crash here, but I wonder if the inactive runway was also illuminated.

It seems like effingly obvious to turn off the runway lights if it's inactive. For one thing, few pilots will try to land at night on a dark strip they can't identify as a runway.

The parking link at the website seems to be broken.

Wikipedia says the airport can handle 6 million air passengers per year, but is only serving less than a million.

There was an expansion early on, including widening the road to the airport and erecting a bypass to/from the MEX-Toluca highway. Then Mexicana went away and the TLC's Big Two largely abandoned it.

They're not done yet. The pending new air transport treaty between the US and Mexico would allow Interjet to move its flights to LAS from TLC to MEX. And they've said they want to do just that.

Spain has a lot of experience with under used or never used airports that are local boondoggles benefiting but a few politicos.

Perhaps Mexico follows a Spanish tradition; perhaps not. I don't know, but often local issues outweigh economic ones.

Pablo Salazar Mendiguchía, governor of Chipas from December 8, 2000 – December 7, 2006 has been arrested on charges of embezzlement of 104 million pesos (U.S. $8.75 million). He was detained June 7, 2011 in the Quintana Roo international airport. The Ángel Albino Corzo International Airport in Chiapas was inaugurated on June 27, 2006. I have heard charges that the airport is not in the best location as the land deal was better for the governor.

On a separate issue there was some speculation recently on the B757 replacement by the Airbus sales chief John Leahy . He stated that "Boeing would probably go ahead with the upgrade to B737 rather than build a widely touted and costlier jet in the 'middle of the market (MOM)'". MOM refers to ( 220-260 seats) and is often seen as code for B757 replacement.

Instead Boeing is considering adopting a larger engine for its 737 MAX 9 jet, dubbing it "Mad MAX" because of the technical challenges it would face. The larger engine is the 'LEAP' engine used on Airbus' hot-selling A321neo to give a 737 with more capacity and range. However, it would still be smaller than MOM.

Just saw an airline ticket we sold
Lufthansa
London to Frankfurt roundtrip coach
Cost of the ticket total is 191.60 USD
Base fare which the airline is charging is 31 pounds or 45.00 USD
The rest taxes. 146.60 USD in taxes, yeesh
I think its ridiculous that taxes far exceed the cost of the product being taxed. That's Europe

Some of that is not taxes, but it is fees. Airport landing fee, fuel surcharge, baggage handling fee, boarding fee. And then there's VAT and all the flight taxes. But it's never just taxes. They want to blame the government, but part of that fees are just running costs pretending to be an extra.

The biggest joke is when some carriers imposed a fuel surcharge in the days of USD100+ per barrel but never bothered to remove it when the price of oil plummeted.
